are you shure it was npws and not do gooders i had hasle last year with larson traps and squirel traps being damaged by do gooders

NPWS are light on the ground, id guess an uneducated person or a farmer looking for some steel:D. I lost two mink traps to do gooders and had a larsen broken.

NPWS Ranger would come looking for you if he had an issue

you could be right cs but what got me thinking was that one lad i talked to had four feeders interfered with in a similar way,.......not a million miles away

If you manage to gather any concrete evidence I would toddle off to your local Garda with it without hesitation.

John's right. If you have permission to have those feeders where they are then the people damaging them or taking parts away are committing offences called either criminal damage or theft depending on whether they've taken parts away or just damaged the feeder. NPWS wouldn't do that sort of thing as pheasant feeders are not in contravention of any wildlife legislation. If a NPWS ranger would come accross any illegal traps or something the like of it they would most likely seize the whole lot and come looking for the owner.

NPWS rangers can go and investigate suspected wildlife and other nature offences anywhere in the jurisdiction of Ireland as far as I know, private or public land isn't really an issue. It's a bit like the Gardai who can investigate suspected criminal offences anywhere in their jurisdiction. Look upon the NPWS rangers as sort of the nature police with according powers and you won't be too far wrong.
