Mixed Scotch Foresomes Question

We're playing foresome today against a male and female golfer. Its half the difference between handicaps.

My question is this: the holes have very different indexes, so the index 1 for mens is different to ladies- how do we give shots.

My first thought was to agree beforehand with the players, that if we give say 6 shots, that we give them indexes 1/3/5 on the mens card and 2/4/6 on the ladies card?

    Anyone had this problem?

For the Irish Mixed Foursomes (interclub competition) the index is always taken off the mens card and the men must drive off the first tee... you might have different conditions for your competition so check out the terms (if there are any!).
The indexing can cause a problem alright because I remember being 1 down going down the last hole and having to concede a shot.. the 18th was a substantially different hole for ladies (tee box well forward and no real danger whereas the men's was a tough hole with plenty of gorse near the landing area) and was only a ladies drive and a flick of a wedge so it wasn't easy giving a shot away there but them's the breaks.
