Business Sourcing & Development For Construction Company

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or experience, or even wants to share some insight into generating business leads for a construction company?

It's a small enough company but is equipped to take on big jobs, good network of labourers and can sub-contract if required.

At the moment the main strategy has been through connections and some cold calling door to door sales.

Any other ideas on how to market this business and drum up some additional work?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

What do you offer?...Is it a specialist type of construction work such as partitions/roofing or just generally everything - e.g. house builder?

How long has the company been running?

How many staff? What types of staff?

    Do you have a website?

Edit: Are you based in Toronto or Ireland?
Would you be willing to work anywhere?

    regards

It's based in Toronto and is any type of construction.

    Here's a craigslist add we have: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/sks/1728633110.html

We have one main crew of about 5 guys, but can have up to 3 or 4 crews on the road if needed. The type of lads we have, can pretty much cover any kind of renovation or building work (electrics, plumbing, roofing etc.)

We'd work anywhere, no website just yet, but working on it and the company is in its first year.

What kind of avenues do construction companies usually follow to build up a large client base / work load?

    Thanks again for any help.

Usually people tender for works - the tenders usually appear in the local papers, so that would be the best place to start looking.

You could subscribe to the local papers for say 100 mile radius (althought the cost of this would prob be high) then check each week for tender opportunites.

Alternatively there are websites that advertise public and private tender opportunities - just found this one.
    http://www.merx.com/ which is for Canada.

It can be hard to get the foot in the door when you are starting out.

Any jobs you have done, you should photograph them etc and put together a brochure of previous work which you could give to prospective clients.

You could cold call bigger construction companies and present this to them to maybe get on their supply chain for upcoming contracts.

Is it just you as the contracts manager then you utilise your squads when you win jobs?

I would like to hear more about what you have done and what you are currently doing.
