Dropped iPod. Songs skip. Any ideas?

    Hey everyone,
I was out for a run the other day and dropped my iPod (I was using it to time myself). The iPod is the classic 80gb model.
Anyways, it wasn't a particularly bad drop but since then everytime I'm listening to a song and I change the volume or if I'm browsing the menu while a song is playing it will start to make a crackling sound. It's almost as if the song is skipping a little bit.
Just wondering if anyone knows why this could be or which internal part of the iPod could be damaged? I repaired my brothers iPod before so I'm not too worried about having a poke inside and the warranty is well up anyway. I'd much prefer to order a replacement part and fix it myself than let Apple charge me an uneccessarily large fee to have a look.
So any ideas? Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks :)

if its cracking when pressing buttons or when you shake it, it sounds like a loose/intermitant connection alright

Cheers for the reply. No, it doesn't seem to happen when I shake it. It always happens when I change volume and more often than not when I'm browsing the menu.
It kind of crackles and sounds like the song is skipping and slowing down as if it was pausing and unpausing really quickly. So in other words it's not a crackling over the song, more like the song is actually stopping and resuming rapidly to make it sound like it's crackling if ya know what I mean.
Could it be the motherboard? Or even just a loose connection thats causing a slight break in the signals from the touch wheel?

I would say if its not a loose contact/connection, its possibly a harddrive fault

I know for other mp3 players, you can connect them up to a pc and do chkdisk/scandisk on them to check for errors.. not sure theres that ability for the auld ipods im afraid

found this short article on doing a very rudimentary one:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/faqs/answers/how-can-i-check-my-ipods-hard-drive-for-errors-like-running-scan-disk/
dated 2003 though, so may not be applicable, and so very much use at your own risk..!
