To celebrate the 25 year anniversary of the infamous 1985 "black-ball" world championship final when Denis taylor defeated steve Davis, both players are coming to Ireland next week doing a snooker legends tour. Part of the night will be the re-enactment of that "famous" final frame. Both players will also do their trick shot routines and tell funny stories from the old days, as well as playing a few frames against a few locals.

    The dates and venues are:

Tuesday May 11th-Carlton Abbey Hotel, Athy.
    Wed May 12th
    Spa Lucan hotel. Dublin.
Thurs may 12th----The Commons Inn Hotel, Cork city.
Friday may 13th----The Grand Hotel, Wicklow town.
Monday May 17th--The Tower Hotel, Waterford.

All shows start at 8pm sharp.
    Ticket prices are €20.

    Connie

Limited VIP tickets are also available in each venue. A VIP ticket entitles the holder to attend a pre-match function with both players at 7pm, and will have a front row seat kept until start of show at 8pm. These tickets are €50.

Ok it was a great final few frames in 1985 and little piece they did at the crucible this year was funny in parts. That didn't make me want to watch it twice though. We've had our 1985 Gospel enough this year and I'm sick of hearing about John Parrotts retirement also, thank you very much.
    lets move on

Couldn't get them down to Kilarney Connie? Get them into a poker tourney while you're at it.

Everyone to his own. Going to watch these lads in action is not for the guy who wants to see competitive snooker. Its for those who want an enjoyable night out, having a laugh, meeting a true legend of the game and one of the few irishmen to have ever won the title.
Both are wonderfull ambassadors of the game, and even though I have seen the show many times, I still laugh out loud when i see it.

And that final in 1985 did more for the game than any other event in snooker history. It is the 25th anniversary, and to have 1 of them still able to mix it with the best in a competitive situation is a remarkable achievement.

Hi Connie, souns like it would be a great night alright. I'm hoping to make it down to the Spa in Lucan next Wednesday if i can get off work a bit early. Do you know can you buy tickets at the door or would i need to book in advance?

I think the promotors could do with giving people a bit of notice (say a month), and it doesn't seem to be advertised much. Attendances/interest could be much better if it was.

Thinking of making it out to Lucan.

Once again as with all exhibitions in Ireland there is little or no advertising /publicity, even the local snooker clubs don't have any posters etc. Come on promoters, if you are going to organise one night or a series of exhibitions send out some flyers to the clubs, that is where your customers are. Word by mouth and this site are the only way word is getting around.

    Hi Connie,

is there a fixed order of events? I'm not so keen on the "local lads"-part, but would be interested in the rest. At the last exhibition I visited, the frames with the local lads took so long that I had to leave before the trick shot and story part started. The lads were also pretty disrespectful and didn't turn up when they were supposed to, because they were drinking at the bar. Don't want waste time and money again on a similar event.

    Thanks!

What a great night's entertainment that was out in Lucan tonight. There's nothing like going there yourself, watching the show on TV was good, but it wasn't the same. Dennis Taylor is just hilarious, and the natural comic timing both have is very good. Steve even picked up a joke about investing in 'head shops', and there were plenty of John Higgins jokes knocking around also.

Top value. This sport is just fine and has so much going for it when you see the players take so much time and courtesy with their watching public. Compare this to spoilt children football players and other sporting megalomaniacs. This is old school proper entertainment.

Yep it really was a deadly night out wasn't it. The lads were a great laugh and very approachable for photos/autographs too. And it was much better than the BBC final frame!

    Hi zack,
I am one of the promoters of this tour, so I hold my hand up if word is not out there. But I can assure you, thats not intentional. For the lucan gig, 400 posters were put out in the surrounding areas, all clubs were posted details/posters of the gig, the players did live interviews with 2 of the local radio stations, and a full page add was taken out in the Lucan newspaper. as well as that, the D.B.S.L were helping us to get word out to the clubs/players, and we contacted all the sports and social clubs in the bigger companies, carried details on our website (www.cueclubevents.net) and had a facebook page dedicated to the tour.
As I'm not from Dublin, I really dont know the best way of getting the word out there. I would genuinely welcome all advice and tips as to what way that can be improved, either here in this thread, or by way of pm if you like. its in my interest that as many people as possible get to find out about the shows, so all suggestions appreciated.

I hope to have that particular show back in Dublin in October time, and the bigger the crowd we get to it, the better. Suggestions on where best to hold it, how to advertise it, etc etc, are more than welcome.

Thanks for the positive response (and Vincenz). We have 4 legs of the tour done now, with 1 more to go next Monday night in Waterford. They have been a great success, and i would safely say that they have been the most popular combination we have ever put together for an exhibition. The crowds just love them, and indeed, why not. They are the ultimate professionals. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they seem to enjoy themselves as much as the crowd do. They really appreciate the support and respect they're getting each night.

We covered mostly the east and south of the country on this tour, and we intend bringing them back in Sept or October for another run of nights.in probably Dublin again somewhere, Dundalk or Drogheda, Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo, galway or carrick-on-shannon, the midlands.. The tour will be put together in 2-3 weeks time. If anyone has any suggestions as to where they think this would be popular, I'd like to hear about them, either here or by pm, or call me on 087-2833343.

    Hi Connie.

How about getting the 2 lads to play in Limerick for a night? It would certinly draw a big crowd I'd say.

    Thanks.
