I will be moving to live in Tralee in 2011.

Have never played golf in Kerry but was wondering would any of ye lads on here advise me of what courses in the Tralee area would be worth enquiring about in regards to membership. I presume a course such as Tralee would not be open to new membership and also if it was would be very expensive.

Was doing a bit of looking online but didn't find much info. A lot of the courses seem to be 9 holes

It depends on what your budget is, afaik Tralee is open for new members as is Ballybunion and Killarney, contact the clubs for more details.
If your looking for something cheaper and don't mind travelling then have a look at Castleisland, Killorglin, Dooks and Beaufort.
The only 9 hole course worth considering is Castlegregory.
Tbh OP if I was you I'd wait untill I've made the move to Kerry and then play all the courses that I'd be interested in joining and you'll have a much better idea of what's what, (also while your playing the courses you'll be able to have a one to one with manager and get all the details you need).

Wouldn't touch it if I were you OP. Played it last year and it has gotten very rundown. Greens hadn't been cut in about a week I'd say. A lot of bunkers have just been let go and are now GUR. By all accounts there is just a skeleton staff there because things are so tight there & the course is suffering. It also gets very wet. Ceann Sibeal in Dingle wouldn't be too far from Tralee and is a very good links course. Really enjoyed it any time I played it. Reasonable enough too.

What type of money would you be talking about for Tralee? Quite a lot i'd imagine

Weather hurt castleisland bad last year, but is in its best condition ever right now and is def worth considering and is streets ahead of beaufort or killorglin. Ceann sibeal is a lovely course but is about an hours drive from tralee and dooks would also be a fair trek from tralee

€2,000 a year for 10 years for membership in Killarney, then normal subs each year from that point. Is this good value?

To me it is, seeing as you're getting 3 courses for that.

I emailed Tralee just to see, they're not open for membership at moment.

Heard from a friend who knows a member that there is a rumour that Tralee may open for members next year. But he didn't know any info on money etc.

    Anyone here know anything?

Not heard anything about membership opening up, but they took in members either last year or year before and it was 8,000 to join. I dont think ervyone who applied got in either.

    Year before I think.

Super course, I spend a fair bit of time in Tralee and would be interested but at €8000 I dunno

Not heard anything but they announced a 5 year investment in Nov starting with reshaping the 10th and adding a practice academy.

Id be surpised if they don't look for new members to help with the cost of this.

The practice academy will be a great addition

Might drop them a email & see if any news on membership. Presume they have had agm so might have made a decision.
