    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has done the Mourne Seven Sevens?

Considering doing it this year. Done the Mourne Wall Walk on Monday last and it nearly killed me but with a bit of work on fitness over the summer, the seven sevens could be a good challenge..

I did it last November. On my own, not in a race.
Took me just over 6 hours. I was moving along well but it was heavy going in the depths of winter. Its a good hike.

How much of the Mourne Wall Walk did you do? Isn't the whole thing around 20 miles? If you can do that you can easily do the sevens.

6 hours!! That is extremely impressive and very very quick. What route did you do?

I done the whole of the Mourne Wall, starting and finishing at Carrick Little carpark. 35kms in all and it took me 10 and 3/4 hours.

Started in the car park in Newcastle, up through the forest to the saddle, left up Donard, back down the same way then as you'd expect > Commedagh, Bearnagh, Meelmore, Meelbeg, Binnian, and Lamagan (I think that's the right order) and back across the saddle and down to the car park.

I don't have access to Garmin records at the moment but from memory I think it was 6:15. I think I could do it quicker. There was a lot of rain the few days before I was there so it was very heavy. I also made a small blunder after passing Doan (think that's what its called) - dropped down too low. Had to work hard to get back up through some ferns.

With 35k including the hardest climbs (Donard and Bearnagh in my opinion) you shouldl be easily able for this by summer

Cheers for that. That was the route I was looking at myself. Apparently some people go the other way round. The only other thing is that you need to check in at Ben Crom Dam at least once during the walk.

Looking at some of the previous times on the website, 6:15 is extremely quick - as quick as some of the runners who took part so fair play..

Anarchists..... The only benefit I could see with that is if visibility is bad it would be easier to pick up the path from the Dam around Doan towards Meelbeg. It would have to be pretty poor conditions for that to make a difference.

Its funny that this topic should come up. Only a few days ago I was starting to think about doing this again in the next few weeks. Maybe not a 6 hour effort.

I wanted to go up the Black Stairs but when I came out of the forest the stream was too fast to cross safely - especially as I was going solo.

The wining time on this blows my mind. How can this be done in 4 hours flat?

    The Black Stairs??

I think the 4 hours was by a runner.. I can only assume you ran some of it?

The idea is bedded in my mind now so I'll probably give it a shot.
