Using pro mma gloves all the time??

Recently I have started to use pro mma gloves and wraps in every session in the gym (apart from sparring invloving heavy strikes, for safety)

Reasons being I think if your only ambition is to fight mma (somebody like myself), then it makes sense to do all your training with hands wrapped and fight gloves on, I think??

In rolling it makes getting certain subs much more difficult, like RNC, plus the hand wraps will get you used to the way they interfere with your coordination and dexterity.

In wreslting/clinch work I think It is useful to get used to which techniques work well with gloves on and what doesnt ( im thinking wrist controls and arm drags, and for the more sneaky guys, hooking the inside of your opponents glove etc etc)

In striking its not really viable for sparring but for pad work it could be useful for building up coordination as its only millimetres that can make the difference in a fight. (maybe you guys already do this but I see alot of people doing pads with Larger boxing gloves)

What are your thoughts on this? Good or bad idea? do you already do this? Possible drawbacks?

    Thanks smile.gif

I use hand wraps all the time when im rolling (i do across the knuckles,i dont know how to do the in between knuckles one)But lately weve been rolling a lot in MMA Training and my hand wraps keep getting loose when im going for an armbar or a RNC(Fave Sub)....So lately id have to stop rolling and take them off cos theyre frustrating :)

I do thai myself, we are encouraged to use bag mits for pads as its much easier to tell if your striking with your knuckles or not.
Plus its supposed to help build up your wrists as your strikes arnt being cushioned by the gloves so much.

Not sure how applicable that is for mma but for the striking alone is should be standard

Funny enough we were talking about this during the week.

There are defo some subs that you do in the technique section of the class which are much more difficult when you put the gloves on.

Safety first so over ambitious one time "cage-fighters" in the gym I dont think it would be great idea however someone like yourself its great givin you the "feel" and helpin you judge your submissions/ strength (dont even train but have had this debate few times before lol:D)

I for one never train (BJJ, benching, whatever) without wearing UFC mma gloves, Tapout shorts and a UFC event tshirt.

For rolling you should be well used to training in the mma gloves if your rolling for mma, but for sparring you need extra padding so either mma sparring gloves or Boxing gloves should be used-on pad work wear whatever your comfortable with.

MMA gloves are poxy for striking and the risk of injury is far higher when wearing them so I'd personally wear boxing gloves here till close to the fight at least.

There is only an inch or so in the difference so even just wearing them in the warm up for the fight will let your reach adjust in your head tbh so I'd only wear them if your comfortable in everyday training and there not for me anyway.. that's my take on it.

Well to be fair that is just standard practise for us `cage fighters`, i wear my gear to the shop as well, and going to events were your not fighting but you wear mma shorts anyway, thats the coolest.

I never watch a UFC™ event without wearing my UFC™ branded gloves

Ah now. A true cage fighter is draped head to toe in tapout. I personally go for a tapout hoodie with a huge shiny logo thats unzipped just enough so that everyone can see the UFC logo on your t-shirt. Tapout sweat pants are ideal but shorts show that your really serious.

In regards to the gloves I think that if you're training grappling for MMA that you should definitely wear them just to get used to them. I'd rather wear bigger gloves when hitting pads of the bag just because they offer protection. Only the lightest sparring should ever be done in MMA gloves.
