I was quoted €800 last night (North Dublin).

Depends on a few factors. Obviously the dentists pricing is a big factor, the lab used and the material used also have a big say.
Going rate I have noticed (Dublin) is €500-900. Can't comment on relative values there as I haven't looked at many other dentists work.

Can anyone reccommend a dentist who is a little cheaper than the norm but still does a good job? Say a crown for €600?

Most dentist could do you a crown for €600 (probably be metal covered with porcelain) but the appearance will be nowhere as good as an all ceramic one. It all depends on what you expect them to look like afterwards.
Is a crown really required? It may be possible to restore the teeth with composite(white) fillings (alot cheaper)

The tooth is at the back of my mouth so I don't really care what it looks like. I believe I do need a Crown as it is fractured and there's only really a sell left surrounding the filling in the centre. €600 sounds more reasonable. I see <snip> are charging €500. Might visit them instead.

Why not? Is there a problem with <snip>?

And we'll wrap this up now folks. This is not the place to discuss relative cost. It always causes trouble. Thread locked.
