i think you need to get a hold of PC or MAc , install Itunes and restore your Iphone.

You can install VMWare and use that to run a virtual machine with Windoze on it. Install iTunes on the VM and use that to restore your iphone.

If you don't have a copy of windows, you can download a perfectly legal evaluation copy of windows server here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/try-it.aspx

    It'll work for your purposes.

I tried last night with Wine ( itunes) but it won't connect to itunes or in dfu mode.
last option will be pc tonight then.

Ph is fully charged as it was plugged in for good few hours while i was testing diff stuff.
It only give me 2 options.
If i hold the sleep/wake button then apple logo comes for 5-10 seconds then black screen again.

If hold together with home button and sleep/wake button then flash for a second and connect to itunes screen.

I had the same problem on my iphone, supposedly its called the apple logo of death or something. anyway, it was frozen for about 12hours, I just kept pressing the on/off button and home button until the phone came on but when it did, none of my apps would load. I sent it back to vodafone to be fixed, they sent it back to me after about two weeks saying no fault could be found. I havent had a problem with the phone since (touch wood) so they obviously did something to it. Did u try ring ur provider?

with the itunes logo displayed, press and hold the sleep and home button for 15 seconds
release the sleep button but hold the home button for another 2 seconds and it should restart normal

    Thanks all.
I got it sorted , tried all home screen/wakeup, in the end had to do DFU mode.
took the hard drive out of my old laptop and copied the backup folder to new laptop and i have almost everything restored now.

PS: I am sure New Installous update caused this crash so just beware.
