I'm a UPC/Chorus analogue customer for years and years. I'm totally confused with all this digital, free to air and freesat stuff. What I'd obviously like to know is whether I can pay for a satellite and get the channels I'm currently getting from Chorus for free? We have tvs in two rooms so we'd like to get the channels on both. I'm not being lazy it's just I'm lost in a sea of jargon and if anybody could give me the basics I'd be very grateful! :D

You will want the RTEs/Tg4 too ? (RTE is not on satellite for free - however you can get whats called a combo box that receives IRISH digital terrestrial TV and HD satellite all in one channellist).

    Heres the channellist. http://www.saortv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=392

You ill need two of these (one for each room).

    http://www.saortv.com/shop/digital-tv-receivers/combo/edision-argus-mini-2-in-1-ip-combo-hd-satellite/dtt-receiver/prod_72.html

You will also need one satellite dish with a quad lnb (can take 4 TV connections). They are €49 in power city. The cables and bits and pieces will cost you about a tenner. Thats it.

You will also need a UHF aerial for the RTE part.

    Thats it.

Yes I do want the RTEs and I had looked and saw they weren't available on Free to Air and had given up.

Thanks ever so much for your response. I don't suppose there's a company that would provide all the equipment you listed and do it all for me? (for a fee obviously)

There are plenty of installers on this part of the site but they arent allowed to tout for business.

But you will find them here http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=155714

Thanks again for all the replies. I had a bit of a brainwave tonight. I've changed from looking to set up two TVs to just one TV. My dad watches the second TV in the kitchen and we will keep the Chorus analogue subscription for that. I could get the combo receiver box for one TV, the main one in the sitting room. It'd be obviously cheaper getting one combo receiver and if things don't work out we could go back to the chorus analogue in the sitting room (at least I hope!).

I've contacted steveon but if there are any other installers in the Limerick area could you drop me a pm? Hope it's okay to ask that mods!

Hi i am not a registered installer but i have installed loads of these free to air boxes in my mates houses and my own house.i dont see why you should pay chorus for a basic chorus subsription when you can get it for free.Pm me and i can pass on my number to you.i live in limerick also.thanks

I dropped into Urlan TV in Clare Street and the lady there was very helpful. She said installing the aerial to get RTE,TG4 etc would be laborious and expensive. I didn't know it had to go on the roof :o

Bit disappointed...pity RTE isn't free like the others! She also said if I buy a TV make sure I get one with an MPEG4 tuner so I won't need a box receiver in the future!

Liam Melodic Tenseness, have a look at the classified ads section of the limerick Post. There are usually 5 or 6 satellite/Sky installers there and they all seem to advertise FTA (free-to-air) installations as well.
