Amazing Linux Games Offer

    Hey guys,

    I just found a great linux games bargain...

    From omgubuntu.co.uk
    It’s an exciting experiment in online retail & distribution – these games would normally set you back around $80 but in this promotion you can literally pay pennies (but don’t you think these games – and the fact they’re Linux friendly – at least deserves a bit more than that?). So far the 'average’ price people have paid for the bundle is a relatively bargainous $7.88.

    As of writing this offer is only open for 5 more days.

    Where does the money go? With no middle man to pay it goes 100% to the developers themselves (and, in this case, optionally, charity) so being stingy with your cash isn’t the best way to reward the hard work and dedication involved. The games are also DRM free so no hidden catch or cripple-ware deadline is going kick in at a later date.

    Games are

    The Humble Indie Bundle comprises the following five games – all available for Linux, Windows & Mac: -

    * World of Goo
    * Aquaria
    * Gish
    * Lugaru HD
    * Penumbra overture

    I already paid for World of Goo but I paid 20 again.

    Check it out !

    I have previously bought the Penumbra Games and World of Goo, I can vouch for them both as being very high quality and entertaining.

    Its great to see the Linux community coming out in force!!

    Look at the break down of purchasers ...

    chart?cht=p&chs=190x100&chco=338833|883333|333388&chd=t:0.247060034564,0.518165886615,0.234774078822&chdl=Mac|Windows|Linux&chf=bg,s,00000000&chdlp=r

    At the time of writing this post,the stats are ...

    Total raised $441,641
    Number of contributions 55085
    Average contribution $8.02

    Mac, Windows, and Linux breakdown. Average price paid ...

    Windows $6.82
    Mac $9.62
    Linux $13.66

    That's a huge turnout for the Linux community. This is the kind of thing that will get other indie developers producing games and will really start the ball rolling!!

    ^^ I was noticing that myself. Do linux users have more to spend since they saved money on the OS? I think they value effort of developers and people like EFF more.

    With Windows users I'd imagine it's "Oh look cheap games", with Linux users it's "OMG GAMES!!!1!"

    Probably that alright. :D I was thinking though, surely Mac users have the deepest pockets, with the most expensive platform and very few games (although with the release of steam, we could see a big change).
    Looks like the average is moving up. I'll be interested to see the statistics on this, like they did with world of goo last time.

    I find it amusing that averages for Windows and Linux have gone up by like 30-40 cent (Mac up 10 cent) since those figures were released.

    Not a huge amount but enough to make me think that it's a conscious thing anyway, since I'd imagine the "big spenders" would've gotten there early and that the average would be dropping.

    Partly the reason for this is that Linux users are used to seeing Donate buttons and are very familiar with the concept of "give as much as you like".

    Seems they exceeded their target of $1 mil ....... last I looked it was $1.3 mil.

    Great offer. Glad it was so well supported, and three of the engines are being released as open source apparently.

    Four according to the site. Although they did just say 3 originally.

    The code to Lugaru is up already, tons of copy-pasted code everywhere and it seems in places there's more commented out code than actual code, but who am I to judge, I've never made anything that could come close :P.

    I'm interested in what they can do with the code for Penumbra, that's a very high quality game with some interesting physics.

    I pledged 20 euro, even though I don't really play games all that much anymore. They are all worth more considering the non sale
    price. My jaw dropped when they announced 1,000,000 sales and made the codebase for most games opensource. Great concept.

    The physics engine might be a roadblock, but I am sure other quality options exist. Liking the fact Linux users represent a sound average.

    Bumpity bump.

    This year's offer is now live.

    The average Linux donation is almost 3 times the Windows donation, and almost twice the Mac donation. :pac:

    Statistics look similar to last year, but a bit lower (Linux ($14.52), Mac ($10.18), Windows ($8.05)). It's early yet so we'll still see fluctuations of $1 or so.

    Their servers are really slow just now. I'm guess that's what the "indie tip" goes towards.

    Never heard of any of those games but I spent $20 all the same.

    It's great to see linux games and I should have some free time over Christmas to play them!
