I Must say it is in fantastic condition and greens are in great shape ..

Anybody looking for somewhere outside of the pale to play on a fanatstic course or courses ( both of them are smashing ) .. headfort if definitely worth a visit .

i played there last month when the greens wern't great,i enjoyed it but i have to say i wasn't overly impressed with the course.(ignoring the condition of the greens)
I can't even put a finger on it but i just didn't love it,played quite well, some nice holes though.
By the looks of the old course on the net i think i would probably prefer that 1,more old style(obviously)

Glad to hear it, they must have improved significantly since Mister Sifter posted about them recently.

Hopefully they'll be good for the JSC now!

Just out of interest, what is the clubhouse like? I was thinking of holding a charity comp down there at the end of the summer and was just wondering if it has a big banquet room.

Also do you think people would have an issue as its about an hour drive from Dublin to get there, you reckon it would affect peoples decision to play?

    Cheers.

I played the New Course last weekend and the place was in stunning condition. What i said about the greens was that they are running very true, but are very, very slow.

I'm not one who minds whether greens are fast or slow, as long as they are true and all the same. Headfort's were spot on in both departments.

I was merely paving the way for the usual complaints from the Junior Scratch brigade next month, when after they shoot a crap score they blame the 'slow greens'.

@ Mister Sfter ..i agree every bit of the way with ya on this .. the course is in fantastic shape .. greens played lovely yesterday slow and consistant all the way through the 18 , I wasn't aware of other posts on the greens until i posted this thread yesterday and JCDUB made reference to recent posts by yourself . I'm glad i got to play it as i've booked both the new and old courses for our Society this year .

@Bart Robert .. The Clubhouse could well accomodate a charity comp , A fine clubhouse it is too . If the people playing in the comp know anything about courses they won't be put off by the drive down as they really are 2 cracking courses ..If anything it might tempt a few more people to play ..

Just in from playing a round on the Headfort New course. All I have to say is WOW. Easily the BEST Parkland course I have played in a long time. The course is stunning. Agree with the comments about the greens. They are not as quick as some others but they run true and in great condition.

This course was a great suprise to me as I did not expect it to be so beautiful. Easily better than Carton or The K Club and far better value. Highly recommend. The Pro Shop person was uninterested and did not do the clubhouse staff any justice, as they were friendly and very helpfull.

Glad to hear its in good nick. My work society plays one of the two of them every year and I really look forward to playing it. Both are brilliant, but I think the new one is much harder, possibly because there's so much more water on it.

This issue with the pro-shop has come up many times before, and its interesting to see that things haven't changed much...

    +1 Headford new.
    - But dont forget to add up the tolls. if your southside, it could cost over €11 for the trip

Playing the new course on Sunday.

Does anyone out there have the list of the index's for each hole? The scorecard on their site doesn't include hole index!!

Playing off 13 I like to plan my round out when playing for a trophy.

Not sure of exact indexes but you will have no shot on the following holes:

    2nd Par 5
    4th Par 3
    7th Par 3
    14th Par 5
    16th Par 5

Headfort GC...two fine golf courses, a very fine clubhouse, and the grumpiest, most unwelcoming pro shop in the land.

A pity that the last item can't seem to be sorted out.

Thanks for that. Looks like if I wanna win the trophy 8th to 13th is where I need to get on a roll1

must say i generally tend to lose momentum round the turn in most outings:
    arrive
burn up the first few holes
begin to fade as we approach halfway
then reignite the fire for the last 5/6 holes
conclusion - headford new is not for me
great set up there, excluding the pro shop (the resident pro is an asshole and only there until mcgrane returns)
also great access now after we put that motorway down over the boyne valley - success

Anyone played here recently. How does it hold up in the winter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭kenkin

I played it on Sunday last. In good condition though greens are a bit slow.
Its a really nice course with plenty of water

Played last Sunday morning. All regular greens bar one (11th) were in play i.e. only one temp green. Full tees, no temp except 11th - Par 3.

In decent shape - sand has been applied to a few "wet" areas between tees and greens which is a good sign that the course staff are continuously improving the course.

Greens a little slow but it is January!!

Played Headfort New in an open comp this week and have to say the course was in the best nick I have seen in a long time. Well manicured and greens in excellent condition. Can't recommend it enough!

My club in Donegal is twined with Headford, heard good things about it and seen its free, I must get down over the summer.
