Why aren't people talking about Mayweather Vs Williams?

Just wondering what the opinions are on this one?

Personally, I think Pacquiao gets hit far too often for someone like Mayweather, and I see Floyd winning pretty easily in the end.

The one guy I see out there who could trouble him at welter is Williams, and ok yea he has a fight with Cintron coming up which is taking attention away, but they seem to be talking more about Martinez as a possible opponent rather than Williams.

Williams is tough opposition for anyone, but he is not a big name like manny in the mainstream right now..

I wonder if Williams having to get his body down to 147 lbs would be a problem?

Floyd will hardly meet him at 154 lbs and give away advantage.
I know Williams says he can make 147 lbs, but it cannot be easy, and cannot be as easy
    as a few years ago.

Williams is one of my favorite fighters, his workrate and attitude to the sport is fantastic,
I've always said since Floyd moved upto 147 this would be his toughest contender and to be honest I think he is the only Fighter out there that has a decent shot of beating Floyd down to his big reach advantage

I reckon Mayweather, just like every other Welterweight out there, wants nothing to do with Williams, there's a reason he's the world's most avoided fighter! Let's say for just a second that Mayweather does agree to fight him, Floyd is 5ft 8, Williams is 6ft 2, that's one hell of a height difference and it doesn't suit Floyd. Then there's the weight difference, they may both make the 147 limit but you can be sure that Williams will be coming into the fight at least 10 lbs heavier than Floyd. There are loads of little things like this, basically Floyd would be fighting a guy who should be at least 2 weight classes above him. As good as Floyd is, I wouldn't be sure if even he could beat a guy like Williams, of course size isn't everything(lol) but in a division like Welterweight, it goes a long way.

I repeat, no welterweight out there wants anything to do with Williams, and I don't blame them!

    High risk, low reward.

Williams throws tonnes of punches (not that that's much of a problem for a fighter with a defence like Mayweather has), he isn't a household name and wouldn't bring in huge PPV figures and he is freakishly large for someone who can go down to 147.

Not very appealing to Mayweather when he knows he can fight a smaller guy (Pacquiao) and get much more money and credit for it.

Something tells me that if Floyd and Paul squared off there would be very good PPV numbers. Paul is known and is also seen as such a threat, that combined with many wanting Floyd to lose could see good numbers.

Floyd Mayweather will never opt to take on Williams even if the ppv numbers were likely to be good. He wants to keep his 0 more than anything and Williams is the biggest threat to him keeping it

It's a shame really - I don't think the fight will ever happen but it's the one I most want to see.

Anyone hear Floyd Sr. most recent On the Ropes interview?
“My son is not a big guy. He’s just not a big guy, he’s not big. He’s about 5’8”, maybe 5’7 ½”. He’s just not a big person. I could see him outsmarting Martinez. Yeah, I could see him outsmarting Martinez. One thing about it, I don’t want anybody having an edge over my son because that’s my son, but I never have liked my son fighting southpaws. It’s not that he can’t beat them, because he beat all of them, his record reflects that, but I don’t like my son fighting southpaws. My son fought two southpaws that I know of. He fought one early in his career, pretty close before he got the title and he got cut pretty bad over the eye. Then when he fought Chop Chop Corley, Chop Chop Corley caught him off guard and hit him a couple of times in one fight. Like I said, it’s not that he can’t win because he has won, but I will just say a lot of guys power still come from a different angle and a different size and he’s not a great big guy. There’s no question in my mind that I got the strategy to train my son to offset a lot of this stuff, but I just don’t like him fighting southpaws because stuff comes from a different angle.”

The bit about 'I don't want anybody having an edge over my son' says to me right there Floyd is never going to face anybody they think has a possibility of beating him. Sad but true

You know, I think at 147 lbs Floyd would beat Williams. Most, if not all those shots being slung by Williams would be hitting thin air. I think Floyd's combination of speed, defense, accuracy, strength and ring brain would solve Paul Williams.

Agreed but the sheer height of Williams would make it awkward for Mayweather, and I think it could be a competitive fight. If Williams were to not let up - throwing up to his 100 punches per round, I'd like to see how Floyd would deal with that. Combining the sheer workrate and volume of punches thrown, with the height and reach advantage, would make it interesting
