Spoiler for 05 Volvo S40?

    Hope ye can help me,

I'm looking to get a spoiler for my car, 05 volvo s40, second generation one. I've searched ebay and the web, and I've seen the lip type spoilers but I dont like the look of them. I'm looking for the more traditional spoiler. I've seen them on the web but I'm too much of a coward to drill holes to fit it to the car, and I dont want to risk buying it and then making a mess with it.

So my question is, does anyone know anywhere in Limerick or Dublin who would supply and install it for me? and a rough price of how much it'd cost?

    Thanks a million

any bodyshop can do this work.

You'd more than likely have to get it painted to match your car anyway

Do bear in mind, though, that buying and fitting it won't be the only cost - it will also make the car worth less come resale.

How much less do you reckon an already 5 year old S40 would be worth in a few years time because it has a spoiler?

Impossible to say really. There'll be people who just won't look at the car because of it, and there'll be others who'll budget to have it removed, the holes filled and the bootlid repainted. There may even be the odd potential buyer who likes it. If I were valuing it (and I haven't been in the trade for a long time) i'd knock maybe €300 off for it, all other things being equal. Thing is, they rarely are - cars with aftermarket spoilers tend in my experience to be rougher than those without.

I don't think it'd be much of a problem in a few years as long as the spoiler actually suits the car and isn't too big. It'd be like saying how much would it devalue an 03 now - people will buy on mileage and condition rather than whether it has a spoiler.

If fairness it's fairly subtle, not like something you see on an Evo or Scooby:

I got a quote from a Mazda dealer for a spoiler on a Mazda 6. Supplied, painted and fitted would have cost almost €700. The spoiler alone (not painted or fitted) was about €200. I was also given an estimate of about €150 to paint and fit it from a panel beater I know. I didn't get the spoiler in the end but I still want it. And I really like the Volvo S40 spoiler too.
