Trustee

Not sure what to do about this, but every communication I get from the tax office is addressed to my Father "as trustee" of myself. Anytime I contact them and give my PPS number the reply is always to my Father. I haven't a clue why this happens, but I am afraid to contact Revenue about this in case I will be hit with a bill (ie. I might be getting taxed incorrectly at the moment, I've been paying PAYE for 10+ years now).

Does anyone knwo how I could have ended up as a trustee of my Father from a tax point of view? and would it make a difference to how I am being taxed?

I've seen it often enough when minors have sufficient income of their own to be taxable.

Revenue can be slow to change even after your 18th birthday, but it's unlikely to make any difference to your tax liability.

What is more likely (voice of experience here) is that there are two different PPS numbers, so you might need to check with Social and Family Affairs, or whatever they are called this week, that any PRSI credits are allocated properly.

Okay. I'l give them a shout.

I never had any taxable jobs before I was 18, but I did do the covenant scheme with my older brother before I was 18 (brother gifted me a sum of money and he got to claim tax back iirc). Would that have anything to do with it?

    Yes

This is likely the cause. The revenue used to just allocate you a PPS number to deal with the tax even though you may have already had one previously or afterwards.

    Kind Regards
