I lost my licence and just got a replacement. It does not actually say anything under "Endorsements" although I thought they had to be listed on there. I think I have 4 points, I'm not sure when the first two are going to expire. Does anyone know how I can find out?

When renewing your insurance, do you guys always tell them how many points you have? If you make a claim will they definitely check this?

endorsements and points are different things.

You need to tell your insurance co, they can refuse to cover you in event of an accident as you didn't fully disclose all relevant info.

Not condoning not notifying points but...

Can only decline the claim if the points would have had a material impact on their offer to you - generally 2 points would not matter (they may seek to apply a higher premium before dealing with a claim).

If failed to disclose a disqualification etc then that is definitely material and would result in declinature of a claim.

Not good practice though not to tell the insurer for any level of points, at best it will delay the settlement and provide a lot of hassle.

You can be quiet sure that if you have a fatal traffic collision, your at fault and they are looking at a payment of €1.5 million +.......they WILL void your insurance for failing to disclaim.....

You can ring the Department of Transport in Ballina Co. Mayo and give them you licence number. They will tell you how many points and how long is left on them.

    This is off topic but...

The insurance Ombudsman and court imposes guidelines on the insurers - the test is whether the non-disclosure was material - 2 points are definitely not material.

As regards avoiding a claim - the insurer cannot avoid the third party element of a claim under any circumstances (when they have issued a policy for the vehicle and driver at time of collision) - what they can do is avoid the claim for own damages (vehicle) and seek reimbursement of damages paid to the third party. In the example, 1 claim of €1.5ml is hardly going to be recovered and so they will not bother to add more costs to the claim.
