Has anyone out there come up with a method of killing off these dreaded weeds ??????????? I have sprayed and sprayed but they all come back !!!
What product is best for each weed and when is best time to spray ? Have had limited success with rushes and thistles (using mortone) but those DOCKS are the toughest to shift.

If the land is wet, rushes will keep coming back. Cut them first, then spray when they're 6 or 8 inches tall with mortone. It's a continious job after them.

I would recommend MCPA above Mortone. Mortone stunts the grass a lot more than the MCPA and you have a much longer grass regrowth period - well that's my experience anyway. MCPA will also do a good job on thistles. I have seen it kill docks, but its manufacturers do not claim that it will control docks but I can say for sure that it has killed docks in a meadow that I sprayed about 3 weeks ago.

duplosan works fairly well with docks if they are sprayed before they get too strong. the mortone or mpca tends to only stunt docks but as was said will get rid of rushes but its a long process . with the wet summers rushes are becoming more common on heavy land so a lot of it has got to do with proper drainage.

MCPA will only stunt docks, they're very hard to kill and it's not the chemical for the job. There's a product called Docker that will wipe them out if you hit them early enough, but it's fairly expensive. From memory I think it works out around €30/acre for the chemical alone. Duplosan will do a fairly good job from year to year if it's a meadow you want to clean up. Thistles are fairly handy to kill, MCPA will do the job or even D50 if you hit them at the right time

    .

you have answered your own query, you will not kill or eliminate them , ..... however by spraying you will control them to a point, just in the door after doing a bit of spot spraying after milking, nice calm humid evening temp 13*C, should get a good result,

trying a different product this time ..genoxone zx

we use duplosan but not very good for long term control with one application, you must keep at them with it, used eagle last year, none back yet and its clover safe if that worries ya,

i actually did that tuesday but our only problem is with the odd thizzle or nettle under the wire. fields themselves are 100%. i used the tractor sprayer with a lance out the door. the only problem with grazon 90 is the cost of it. €45 for a 1 litre bottle.

i had graz on 90 that i bought for last year but the weather was crap... went to set up sprayer this morning and some smart arse had cut the lead that goes to the battery and used it for the battery charger - was not impressed at all

we had the same problem and we were told to consistantly spray for three years solid to clear it out properly, it supposedly takes that long to get rid of the docks from the field, silage, slurry etc

You'd have to spray the whole farm every year for three years to get rid of docks. And even then that might not be enough. Cattle will just eat the seeds in one field and carry them in their stomach to the next field or they'll end up in the slurry and get spread everywhere.

MCPA is definately te best for te uses and tistles but i find docks impossible to get rid of altogeter..

AFAIK, genoxone zx is the same chemical as grazon 90 costing €31 or €32 per litre.

I've a 10 acre silage field which I recently fertilized with CAN. There are a fair few weeds, dandelions etc. The quality of the silage is good but I think it could be better by spraying the weeds. I hope to cut silage in early July

    Any recommendations for spraying?
