Just got my first penalty points this eveing. problem is i dont have my full license yet. i passed my test a few weeks ago but have not yet got around to applying for my full(pink) license. she, the garda, told me to bring in my license within 10 days but should i apply tomorrow and hope i get a full license sent out to me within 10 days or just bring in my old provisional and certificate of competantncy tomorrow. or will a receipt for my application for a full license keep them happy for a while till i get my pink license in the post?

    Thanks!

Just bring in the provisional licence.

Bring the application directly to the tax office that will take care of making the licence, they will be able to do it in a few hours at most AFAIK!

Also, what did you do? Hit a child? Get pissed and take a joyride?

Better off going to the motors forum, you'll get more serious replies.

You should be ok though once you have the certificate of competancy i'd imagine, although i think think that until you actually get your full licence, you'd still be subject to the same laws that a provisional licence holder would. ie. having to keep your L-Plates up. I could be totally wrong with that though.

Well from when I got my full license my driver number stayed the same as my learner permit. So if you somehow don't manage to get the license in time just bring in the certificate saying you passed and your learner permit. Then send away and they'll have your points put on your license. They request you send a photocopy of your license when paying the fine to help process it. Ring the helpline and ask will a photocopy of your permit and your certificate of passing suffice for now.

No don't plan on getting more anyway, not least for another 3 years anyway! Was texting and didn't realise the cop car beside me! Thanks for the replies think ill nip down the tax office before work tommorrow and ask them how quickly they can print up a license for me if that fails ill bring the cert and the provisional.

you're right, i was told this by a guard one night. she said to get the license because some "ould bastard" would do you for it.

The receipt should keep them happy, OP.
It did the one time I produced it though this may vary from cop to cop, but AFAIK, tis legitimate.
The cops don't put points on your license either, it's just to produce it to see you've passed.

Thanks op, you just reminded me that the 2 points I got 3 years ago are gone :) Woohoo... Doesn't effect anything though. Pfft.

I would say try and get the full license before presenting it, if it's possible to get it quickly. Some Gardai can decide to take exception with you and do you for everything they can. ie. riving without a full licensed drive, no L plates etc... Not sure if your cert & provisional is enough to drive with full license privellages.

Out of curiousity, were you driving or stopped at lights when you were caught?

OP has opened a new thread thread in Motors so I'll just close this.
    Please continue discussion there.
