New tournament has been announced for British & Irish players:

The first Starcraft 2 British & Irish Open has been announced. An online tournament will be held every Thursday at 19:00 GMT, beginning on May 7th. Every fifth tournament will act as a Grand Final featuring the four previous winners. The aim of the British & Irish Open is to "unite the scene and create a solid foundation for future events like LANs, show matches and some oh so secret international events!". Signups are accepted on this TeamLiquid thread.

The tournament features a straightforward Best-Of-One single elimination bracket until the fourth round when matches are played as a Best-Of-Three. The final will be played as a Best-Of-Five with the winner claiming a spot in the Grand Final. If a player wins two events, the next highest finisher that has not qualified for the Grand Final will earn the place.

    Tournament Information:
Date: Every Thursday from 6th May-3rd June
    Time: 7:00pm BST
    Players: 64 player maximum
    Location: European SC2 Bnet servers.
Structure: Regular Single Elimination (BO1 until Final 4, Bo3 semis and 3rd place, Bo5 finals).
    Admins: flicky.fij, Vilda.vilda
Prizes: Winner gains a place in the monthly Grand Final

Yeah, I saw this on Team Liquid.

TotalBiscuit is doing the shoutcasting for it. He was the winner Blizzard’s EU Shoutcasting Contest 2009.

Gonna try get home in time to watch the first one.

I'm playing in it, don't expect to get very far though :) I'll be happy if I get through the first round.

I got a feeling there will be a whole lot of Terran and Protoss players in the finals...

Should try tell the Koreans that Zerg are underpowered, they dominate there...

    This is brilliant news..

The more 'sunday cup' style tourneys, the wider the skillbase they appeals to, the more players can get hooked, the bigger the community grows, and so on and so on..

Starcraft1 reached a kind of critical mass in South Korea, hopefully the same thing can happen with Starcraft2 in Europe..

One thing is for sure, the tightly fought little Euro-cup and big variety of great casters is making it all very enjoyable to watch, even if I hardly play the actual game itself

Difference in play style as the European complaint is about Mech :)

From what I've seen it is generally agreed though that Zerg is lacking towards mid/end game when it goes air though and that Terran (followed by Protoss) are more well rounded.

I'd say Zerg end game is incredibly powerful against protoss and alright against Terran. The Protoss simply have nothing to deal with a hydra with roach or lings mix with Broodlords support.

However their midgame at the minute is quite weak, Muta are fairly weak compared to SC1, and corruptors are very specialist. And their the only other direct combat units between hydra and broodlord, with a lot of tech in between. However infestors are an excellent support unit and can do a good job of bridging the gap if used well.
