I am so fkcin sick of my eircom broadband - its a 3mb package which is completely sh1te - trying to download a mix just now and browse and its so bloody slow!!! Think I pay about 50 quid a month also for home phone and the 3mb package.

So without going to the 'broadband' forum, what do others here use and where can I get better feckin speeds for my money?

Im on eircom aswell, the main problem with them seems to be their DNS servers.

    www.opendns.com

I changed my dns to open dns and my internet is running much better now, try it out it only takes two seconds/

Yeah just had a look at their site - 20mb broadband would be very nice. Don't think its available out my way though.

I can't imagine what it would be like to go from my current 3mb to 30mb, let alone 100mb. Eircom better get their sh1t together... although in some areas like mine I don't think there's any real competition.

As far as I know Eircom are upgrading anyone on 3mbs to 8mbs for free pretty soon. There's loads about it in the broadband forum, maybe have a look before rushing into anything.

Have you done the normal stuff like changing your channel and relocating the router etc?

For my house at the moment we'd actually save €100 a month by signing up to 5 times faster UPC broadband and upgrade to digital telly in the process...Might wait and see if that upgrade happens first though, because I don't want to have to spend days on the phone to UPC getting things working.

I have the UPC 15mb. I have a love3/hate relationship with them. When it works my connections is fantastic, I can get 1.5mb - 1.8mb per second downloads sometimes its bloody fantastic. In fairness you don't really need more than that as you'll only get those speeds if you are downloading from rapidshare or popular torrents etc - either way its brilliant.

The only thing is that when you have a problem with UPC it's an absolute nightmare, and I've had my share of problems. I've been without internet for over 2 weeks on several occasions. You have to raise a sh1tstorm before anyone will try to help you.
