A work collegue has one of these and yes the turbo blew on him last year. Apparently it is very common on the X-trail and afaik he got a reconditioned one from the UK, I think they allowed him a few quid for his old turbo too as they recondition them.

I can ask him tomorrow if he remembers the name of the place if you like.

Looks like it is an issue with the 2.2d versions. We had a 2005 that had the turbo replaced at around 120,000km in June 07. As there is only a bill for car hire against that maintenance I presume Nissan covered the whole cost, but it was only just over 2 years old at the time.

There's also a 2004 model on our system with low mileage that suffered power loss, information on my system says that Nissan replaced the vehicle.

The 2.0d looks like it was fairly bulletproof though. Had an 07 back recently with 222,000km that has never had anything but service, tax and tyres.

OP - take it to a Nissan dealer and ask them to submit a goodwill claim for the work as it seems to be an issue. Tell them you won't be having the work done there unless Nissan make a substantial contribution. If you are lucky, Nissan might cover the cost of the Turbo, or at least a large %.

OK thanks - dealer didn't want to know, and Nissan Ireland not keen either. I think it's time to just pay up and get it fixed and then trade in for a Hyundai.

You wont get good will on a 5 year old car, even if its low mileage with a FSH.

They did give intercooler problems, but I've never seen a turbo fail due to component failure. I have seen them go due to oil starvation, but that was the drivers fault.

    Hello
Can any x trail owner give me advice please. I have a 2006 2.2 dci commercial with 77000 km and have replaced both Front Calipers and pads in the last six months. The calipers locked while the vehicle was moving resulting in the pads sticking to the disc. This happened within four months of each other. A friend of mine had the very same happen to him with the same model x trail. I know of a third x trail with the same problem at the moment. Nissan wont cover it as the three year warranty has expired. No other nissan forum has mentioned this problem. Also whats the story with the turbo. My engine is fine at the moment but i hear they can give big trouble especially the 136 bhp model which is what I have. My mileage has increased recently and it something I am concerned about. Can anyone advise me. I know Nissan Great Britain extended there warranty to five years to cover the turbo but it has not happened here.
    Thanks

Had a 2006 2.2 Dci 136bhp. Turbo replaced at 17,000kms, again at 44k and again at 91k. Common problem apparantly, but Nissan dealer and Nissan Ireland will not admit this. All turbos replaced under warranty, but severe inconvenience - car off road for up to 2 weeks! I asked dealer and Nissan Ireland to do something about replacing the jeep as it was not of merchantable quality from day 1 obviously, but no joy. I heard of somebody with a similar issue with a Santa Fe, and Hyundai replaced the jeep immediately - no qualms! I found Nissan Ireland and dealer extremely unhelpful and at times rude. Will never again buy a Nissan, they need to cop on and look after their customers - a longer term view may improve their image and help them gain repeat business instead of getting bad publicity and ill will. A word of caution - my last turbo blew suddenly and without any prior warning while overtaking a truck! I would encourage anyone experiencing problems to contact Nissan directly and give them a piece of their mind. It took almost 2 months of constant phonecalls to convince the dealer to take back the x-trail. I refused to sell it on to an unsuspecting person or garage for obvious reasons, so I wanted cash for it - eventually got the dealer + Nissan to cough up. Only got trade value and had to buy another of their vehicles in order to avail of their "offer". Currently trying to sell it as I'm embarrassed to be seen driving something wearing that badge on the grill and embarrassed that I was ever foolish enough to buy the x-trail in the first place!

    contact commonsensecarparts.com
they are an Irish company that supply turbos with a 12 month warranty. recently put a garage I deal with in Kerry on to them and they tell me they have since dealt with them a couple of times as they know their stuff and do other car parts as well - apparently v competitive on prices.

    LOL :o

Serious, youve blown a Turbo not once, not twice, three times???!! Nobody is that unlucky.
However you can be skimping on servicing and driving the bollix out of it and not letting the turbo cool before ya shut it down.

Jeep was serviced by main dealer at correct intervals since it was purchased new. I've driven turbo diesel engined vehicles since the early 1990s - tractors, jeeps, cars and even a few trucks - never had a turbo problem on any of them. Put hundreds of thousands of kms on other vehicles with no problems - so I don't believe the problems were down to my treatment of the car. Also know of 3 other people in my immediate locality with same vehicle with same problem - more than just a coincidence I think!

have a 2.2 DCi primera (same engine as x-trail) and turbo needs to be replaced, only 80k miles on the car, also losing power (not turbo) due to some electrical fault which will cost c.€550 to replace. Turbo will cost c.€1300 to replace. For a 5 year-old car with a large diesel engine and relatively low mileage this it NOT GOOD. Also have a second nissan in the family and it is giving trouble too. Time to move on. Can't praise the service center enough for looking after me but Nissan need to get their house in order.

You can buy a reconditioned turbo from the UK for alot less than that, might be a better option if you are parting with it soon.
