Hey.. We're a group of 6/7 people looking to go to Istanbul in June. half men and women..Does anyone have any ideas whats the best area to stay in as regards sightseeing nightlife and possibly a few days in the beach? also price would be a factor as we'd like somewhere with reasonably cheap restaurants and accommodation. we'd be looking to rent apartments.. anyone who has ideas they'd be greatly appreciated. cheers..

I was in Istanbul in June 2008. Based on my experience, I would say look for a place in Beyoğlu. My hotel was just off İstiklâl Caddesi and that location was perfect. İstiklâl Caddesi is the city's main shopping street during the day. At night, the surrounding alleys come alive with food, drink and music places. Once you have picked a place though, do travel around. Istanbul is amazing and there is so much to see. Make sure to visit the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cistern, Prince's Islands, the Asian side...

Brilliant.. thanks very much.. would you reckon that area is far from a reasonable beach as some of the female folk are beach hunters, personally I dont mind..

To be honest, I never even thought about beaches. There is so much to discover in Istanbul, the city itself kept us way busy. I would imagine though that if you do find a beach, it will be unbelievably full. Istanbul has something like 15 million people living there - and not a whole lot of space for beaches.

The Prince's islands are a popular leisure destination with locals. I remember nice parks and small towns there. Also, there are no cars on the islands, making them very pleasant to walk around on. Maybe check whether there is a beach on one of the islands?
