They stole the valve caps off all four wheels!

Noticed when I got home today, they were all there when I last checked my pressures two weeks ago.

Who steals valve caps FFS

On the bright side at least it wasnt the wheels!

I know how you feel ive had loads of stupid things robbed of my cars, such as wipers, centre caps of alloys, aerials and only last week my front reg plate.

Same happened to me. They only stole one though. Had to buy a set of five anyway.

I had one stolen a few weeks back - a metal one.

Hope this is not some sort of new fad.

Most definitely, kids call them "dusties" and get great pleasure in nicking them. Did it myself when I was a kid (150 yrs ago)

Kids do it all the time, and apples out of orchards too. Part of growing up.

I'm not too far away from being a kid, dusties were all the rage if you had a BMX, and someone I knew had a collection of around.....200?

I used to be into those metal dust covers with the car logo on them. However, so many of them got knicked, I just gave up and stuck with the plastic ones.

I usually find them around the compressor at service stations where people forget to put them back on. :)

I will be honest I'm guilty of doing this about 10 years ago I stole two to put on my bike wheels.
Its not uncommon probably the funniest one I heard about was when my friends ford focus was missing them. They are not exactly the flashiest infact they are bog standard and look exactly the same as ones that come on bike wheels

does a missing dust cap effect the tyre pressure?

no, just allow dirt to get in and buildup. eventually may affect the valve and you may not be able to open it fully but thats a lot of dirt before that happens :D

    Did you piss someone off?

Usually when I see a car parked ignorantly(outside the lines) I steal their dust caps

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Liamo08

Just use plastic ones, I've lost count of the amount of these that have been robbed off my car. I've tried two different types of lockable ones as well and both of them were robbed, whoever was robbing them even had the tool to disconnect them. Unless you park in a garage then plastic ones are the way to go.

A mate of mine drives a Porsche and had all four stroked.

They were stainless steel and had the logo on the top of them so I couldn't imagine them lasting too long!

I just hope it was youngsters wanting a prestige "dustie":D rather than an impoverished porsche driver, heaven forbid:eek:

Same thing used to happen to my father. Took him a while to give in and just put the black plastic ones on. Not been nicked since!

only last week my front reg plate.
Keep a rough log of where you drive over the next few weeks, so you know where you were when you start getting speeding tickets... and where you were not.
