I've just been told that one, possibly two Injectors are gone on my Mondeo.
Seemingly this could be an expensive repair job so i could use some advice on getting it fixed.
Should i go Main Ford dealer? What is the cost likely to be?How long will the job take?
I've had six Mondeos in the past but never a breakdown like this.Would i have any comeback with Ford or is the car to old being a '03
    All advice appreciated.

There are places that can refurb them for around €100 a pop. I'm sure someone with recent experience of using one of these places will be along shortly...

It depends on the exact injector used as some can be refurbished and others have to be replaced straight. Also, the replaced injector needs to be coded in using a suitable computer or scanner.

OP, if the car is running, have you asked whoever performed the diagnosis if they can "recode" the injectors? The 16digit code for the injectors are usually somewhere around the rocker cover or timing case on the mondy!

Finally, where are you based? I might be able to recommend a diesel shop near you, which should be cheaper than Ford. Also, if you have no experience of working on a common rail engine then leave well alone - they don't make good guinea pigs ;)

Can anyone tell me if these refurbished injectors are ment to be any good?

I heard the refurbished ones have quite high failure rates and I struggle to understand how exactly one can be refurbished due to the nature of an injector.

Obviously its big bucks for a new set but just curious.

Could you explain your problems atm with the car - is it missing, putting out smoke (white, black etc), lacking power etc?

Had you the flashing glow plug on your dash recently? Has the car cut out? Have you got any error codes scanned?

If you could add some more detail it would help - local mechanics sometimes just guess you have to remember. But if you had any of the above symptoms it may / may not be injectors. There are so many potential faults which mechanics often think are injector issues - eg ERG valve, split pipes etc etc

If it is a diesel injector or even the pump, Liam Gleeson in Diesel Injections Services in Cashel Co Tipp is your man Tel: 062 61670. Probably the best in the country when it comes to this sort of thing and he wont rob ya blind either (people from all over the country use him). You can bring the car to him and he'll do the whole lot or you can send him the injectors and he'll refurb them and send them back.

In the last place I worked we used him regularly and the injectors were always 100% coming back and never had problems with them. Most of the engine we put them in were either industrial machinery engines or truck engines both of which see a lot of usage so to answer your question re furb ones are just as good...

Finally no I dont work for this company nor have any connections with them, Just giving out some helpfull advice as there are some cowboys operating in this country..

The car is misfiring, blowing out black smoke and a warning light flashing on the dash.
Have just been told parts and labour will be over €400 per injector with two needing to be replaced.
This is by a main Ford dealer.Probebly gonna cost a grand to do the job.
Is there any comeback with Ford?

    Nope...

Is your flashing glow plug light on constantly?

Have Ford done a leak off test?

Have you tried cleaning out the EGR valve first or even bypassing it by blocking it? The black smoke can mean that the EGR valve is not working well (could be clogged with carbon deposits or stuck open) and in turn the ECU adjusts accordingly but chances are that the power will be less (from reduced air/fuel volume).

Contact Excel Diesel, 01-4260552. they are the Delphi Diesel specialist in Ireland, any Delphi diesel problems end up there. The can test and refurb you injectors for you.

Most diesel injection places sent injectors that they can not fix.

That doc covers exactly what I said, and also the fact that recoding the injectors to the ECU may cure the fault in certain cases (sometimes temporarily though!) depending on the Pxxxx code found.

The ECU controls the injector's fueling characteristics based on that 16 digit code. The manufacturing tolerances are so fine that no two injectors are the same, and that is why the fueling control needs to be so precise to get the injector to work properly.

I think the Ford guys should be more or less right with their diagnostics on this because the Ford IDS (dealer software) system is very sophisticated and accurate.

OP, have Ford advised you of any fault codes found? And did you get a fill of bad diesel? I've never seen a pair of injectors fail by themselves, unless there is contamination somewhere. Others can correct me on this though.

And don't forget, you don't have to go the main dealer route. There are plenty of independent diesel specialists out there who will do the job right for less!
