Me and the boyfriend are just after getting into fly tying and was wondering could any of the hunters on boards help us out with pelts, capes, wings or feathers in general? Would be greatly appreciated.

Yeh I know you can buy them in shops. I wasnt looking for freebies if thats what your thinking.

Before my brother left Ireland he used to come home with bags full of all these different birds that he had shot and he would usually end up dumping them. Was just thinking if theres any other hunters getting that many and dumping them then maybe theyd give them to me.

Your a little late in asking your question! should have asked during the game season!

A good friend of ours comes with little plastic bags every sunday during the season and takes all the feathers he needs for tying flies, wether it be from Duck, Pheasant, Woodcock or whatever else we get!

He then repays the favour by giving us some well made flies in return!
    Not a bad swap!!:D:D:D

dont mean to sound bad or anything but why would your brother shoot game only to throw it in the bin ..........he would be better off shooting clays:mad::mad:

She likely means the feathers etc, not the birds themselves.

    Hi xxVickyxx,

Be careful you're not snowed under with a stack of smelly unusable stuff. If you tell us what you are tying and which feathers & fur you want, you would be doing yourself a favour.

Bronze mallard, teal flank feathers, hen pheasant centre tail, magpie flight feathers are fairly widely used, but apart from those you will probably need specific feathers or fur for specific flies.

So an idea of what you want or what you are tying - wet, dry, nymphs, Mayflies, salmon flies, whatever, would help.
