However im looking to get a multimedia harddrive so that i can copy them all onto it and then watch them directly on the tv.

which is the best multimedia hard drive currently available for this purpose.

any advice appreciated as i dont know a lot about this subject.

Why not buy a Western Digital WD TV HD media player? Will play all files out there in full HD. You can get them in PCWorld. Works great.

doesnt down mix dts audio for those who dont have an amp/surround sound system,it would mean converting all audio parts of your movies,so go for either the asus o! play,ac ryan mini, xtreamer or the wd live, dont go for the wd hdtv

unless your a techie head that means nothing

if you have a bunch of avi , mkv , mp4 etc that you wanna be able to use then the WD TV is savage

    Hi All,
Just had a look at a Lacie MMHD (http://www.lacie.com/ie/products/product.htm?pid=11389), which plays most formats I'm familiar with (AVI, DivX, etc.) but also play DVD formats (ISO, Video_TS). You can also WiFi connect to your home network.
Any opinions on cost/value to functionality?
I bought a 1TB Iomega MMHD for my in-laws and it worked fine, but would sometimes not show any of the files in the folders. For example, it would show all the files in the music folder (mp3) but none of the movies (DivX) or vice versa.

    Cheers :o

    Just to follow up,
Bought the Lacie 1 TB HD there in Right Click on Camden St. I was quoted €220, so I mentioned the Pixmania price (€189 + shipping) and they knocked over 10% off the price! Tried it out and it's playing everything I have, with clean HDMI transfer, all of which I couldn't say about the Iomega!
Need a router for the network, but I'm not in a hurry yet....
    ;)

I too am looking for a multi media player to build up a good movie (home and 'Hollywood'), photo and music library.

I have the following set up at home:-

    TV - Panasonic Vierra TH-50PY80EY

Blu Ray Player - Panasonic DMP-BD30

    Amplifier - Onkyo TX-SR875

Jamo 5.1 S606 surround sound speaker system

Freesat HD PVR - Sagem DTR 94500

    UPC PVR

My preference is to get a multi media hard drive which has built in wi-fi and a bit torrent client.

    Any recommendations?

    Ben

have a screenplay Pro my self ,pretty happy with it ,

But set my boss up with the newer version
    http://go.iomega.com/en/products/multimedia-drive/screenplay/screenplay-director/?partner=4725

Def plays MKV and will take usb drive to expand with. Have to say I was very impressed with it. Even remembers what u viewed and to where you viewed last.
