    Hi,
Thinking about a Med cruise in the summer departing from Rome-Civitavecchia.Ryanair flights into Rome cheaper than Aer Lingus so does anyone know best way to get from Ciampino to Civitavecchia?Bus or train or combination of both?Is it major hassle? Is it true it could take 2 hours??Thanks

The easiest way would be to hire a taxi/minicab - but it's pricey, anywhere from 120-200 euros.

To save a bit of money, you could either:

Get shuttle bus from Ciampino airport to Ciampino train station (2euro)

Get train from Ciampino to Roma Centrale (Stazione Termini), followed by a connecting train to Civitavecchia (5 euro, takes between 1.5 and 2 hours)

    Total cost=7

    OR

Get Terravision bus from Ciampino airport to Roma Centrale - Stazione Termini ) (e8, takes around 40 mins)

Get train from Roma Centrale to Civitavecchia. (e4.50, takes a little over an hour)

Total cost = e12.50 per person

Consider as well how much luggage you're bringing - the bulkier the bags, the more stressful the connections will be.

    Thanks kaki,

Have you travelled on both options?Would option 2 be the quickest?Defo wont be getting taxi and dont really mind if it takes 2 hours to get there. Also, the train in option 2 is cheaper and quicker but both seem to leave Roma Centrale to Civitavecchia? Is there a reason for this? Thanks for your help

Sorry kaki just re-read your post,I take it option 1 includes journey from Ciampino

    Hi Toby

Yeah, there's only a slight increase in price of the train fare when you add the Ciampino portion onto the journey.

I haven't done both, but my parents friends went on a cruise from Civitavecchia, and they did the second option (The Terravision bus followed by one train journey). It's much of a muchness anyway, on the one hand you only have to change once when you use the Terravision, on the other hand it drops you outside Stazione Termini, not inside - the less time spent walking around the station, especially with lots of luggage (pickpocket/thief magnet) the better. Probably I'd choose the 2 train option - the trains are great here in Italy, mostly on time, frequent and cheap.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks kaki,
Might just take your advice and take the 2 train option. So would the total journey from airport to port take about 2 hours?
