The Killer's Song Lyrics - Christian Theme

Been listening to The Killers a bit recently. I find there Lyrics provoke strong Christian images in my mind. For example, in A Dustland Fairytale there are the following lyrics:

"Saw Cinderella in a party dress, she was looking for a nightgown.
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands, he's getting ready for the showdown.
I saw the minute that I turned away, I got my money on a pawn tonight.

Change came in disguise of revelation, set his soul on fire.
She said she always knew he'd come around.
    And the decades disappear
Like sinking ships but we persevere.
God gives us hope but we still fear, we don't know.

    Your mind is poisoned.
Castles in the sky, sit stranded, vandalized.
    The drawbridge is closing."

Kinda reminds me of the book of revelations where the woman is being chased by the dragon. Also, the deveil wrapping up his hands reminds me of a boxer, he's getting ready for the imminent fight or showdown that The Bible warns us of.

God gives us hope but we still fear is probably relevant to everyone. We are told to have faith and trust in our Lord but we all doubt at some time or other.

Does anyone else feel the same as me or am I going mad?

AFAIK, they are practicing mormons, so wouldn't be surprised if that comes out in some of their lyrics.

You might also be interested in Bruce Springsteen, who has littered his songs in recent years with references to Catholicism. He has spoken a lot about how much of an impact Catholicism has had on his life. As far as I know, he is not a practicing Catholic. But he does wear a lot of medals of the Saints around his neck.

Anyway, here are some samples. In his song The Rising, he sang

    "Left the house this morning
    Bells ringing filled the air
Wearin' the cross of my calling
On wheels of fire I come rollin' down here

    Spirits above and behind me
Faces gone, black eyes burnin' bright
May their precious blood forever bind me
Lord as I stand before your fiery light

I see you Mary in the garden
In the garden of a thousand sighs
There's holy pictures of our children
Dancin' in a sky filled with light."

He has often used the name Mary in his songs, such as The River and Thunder Road, and it may just may a name he likes to use, but he does use it a lot in a religious context also.

In the song Mary's Place he also uses a lot of religious imagery.

"I got seven pictures of Buddha
    The prophet's on my tongue
    Eleven angels of mercy
Sighin' over that black hole in the sun
My heart's dark but it's risin'
I'm pullin' all the faith I can see
From that black hole on the horizon
I hear your voice calling me

I got a picture of you in my locket
I keep it close to my heart
A light shining in my breast
    Leading me through the dark
    Seven days, seven candles
In my window light your way
Your favorite record's on the turntable
I drop the needle and pray."

His next album, Devils And Dust, had a song titled Jesus Was An Only Son.

"Well Jesus kissed his mother's hands
    Whispered, "Mother, still your tears,
For remember the soul of the universe
Willed a world and it appeared."

In a song called I'll Work For Your Love, he mentioned the stations of the cross, and sang

"Round your hair the sun lifts a halo
At your lips a crown of thorns
    Whatever other deals goin' down
    To this one I'm sworn"

And the rest of the song, in my humble opinion, is quite brilliant.

    "The pages of Revelation
Lie open in your empty eyes of blue
I watch you slip that comb through your hair and this I promise you

I'll work for your love, dear
    I'll work for your love
What others may want for free
    I'll work for your love

Your tears, they fill the rosary
At your feet, my temple of bones
Here in this perdition we go on and on

Now our city of peace has crumbled
Our book of faith's been tossed
And I'm just out here searchin'
For my own piece of the cross

The late afternoon sun fills the room
With the mist of the garden before the fall
I watch your hands smooth the front of your blouse and seven drops of blood fall"

These are just some samples I thought some of you might be interested in. I should point out, I didn't even notice these references much until I started paying more attention to religion over the course of the past few months. I've always been a fan of Springsteen, and it was never anything to do with his religious or political views or anything like that - just really good music. I suppose a lot of modern music is filled with religious references, I think we could share more examples here perhaps.
