jobseeker allowance for PhD student with finished scholarship?

Have you got any idea if I can claim any sort of job seeker allowance?

My PhD scholarship has just finished now but I am still in the process of writing up my thesis. I doubt I will submit it earlier than end of this year. I am not receiving a scholarship anymore but I am still on students register because I am yet to submit the thesis. It leaves me in a no man's land. No income and no diploma for the moment. Scholarship was tax free without any PRSI contributions. Between 2007-2010 I should have around 16-17 months of paid PRSI contributions from other sources of employment.

In the academia there are very few positions at the moment (moratorium, etc). I responded in the last few weeks to 20 job ads from the financial sector (I have a qfa too) but received literally no response. I can prove to the officer that I am actively looking for a job based on my experience. I will work for full two weeks in May as an exam invigilator but it will be finished on the 28th of May. Unsure what to do next?! Can I get any allowance after that date or dole officer will still see me as a full time student?
