Leaving Negative Feedback & Escalating a Claim

    Hi,

I purchased something on eBay a few weeks ago and after two weeks I hadnt received it. So I twice messaged the seller through eBay over the course of a week inquiring as to where my product was, and she never replied.

So I got onto paypal and a dispute email was sent from paypal to the seller but still heard nothing back after a few days so I have decided to escalate to a claim.

The product is only for a small amount, but it's the principle and the ignorance of the seller which has got to me.

So at this moment in time the dispute has been escalated to a claim and the seller has to the 15th of May or something to reply etc.

Can I leave negative feedback here and now on eBay or will it affect my claim?

    Cheers

It won't effect your claim, but I would wait until I got the money back. An appropriate response at that point would be something like:
No response at all from seller. Paypal refunded money.

    Cheers, will wait so.

My response was probably going to be a lot harsher than that, but I will take your advice.

Just be careful with feedback. Overly harsh comments could be removed. Stick to facts, don't use profanity, don't get personal and you should be OK.

Why wait to leave feedback? The few times I've had to make a claim, I left negative feedback first and it didn't cause any problems, paypal still refunded my money. Make sure you leave it before the time runs out. I do agree with what the others say about sticking to plain facts in the feedback though, and not being rude otherwise ebay could remove it. Try and include as many details as possible that you have space for though, like: "never recieved item, seller ignores emails, got paypal refund. Avoid this seller."

Make sure you include everything bad that they did in the feedback, don't leave anything out.

How long do you have to leave feedback from the date of purchase?

On an ebay help page it says 60 days. But if you leave bad feedback now, it lends weight to your paypal claim. I'd leave it now if I was you.

In certain cases, Paypal may not refund, so you would want to wait until the claim is settled, so as to leave the most accurate feedback. Also, it may effect what you say if the seller responds to the Paypal claim and refunds themselves, or whether they ignore it and make you wait the 10 days.

The feedback itself won't effect your claim, but it is best to wait until that's settled before leaving it.

Depends how long it takes, it's already been weeks since he bought the item, if the seller drags the claim out it could be weeks more before it's resolved. Just make sure you get the feedback posted before times runs out.

I'd agree for most claims especially if its a problem the seller wasn't aware of but if it will help others be aware of a possible problem with the seller then the sooner you leave negative the better. So damaged in transit might be beyond the sellers control so wait and sort it out but if the item is an obvious fake and sold as genuine I'd go for letting others know by leaving FACTUAL negative feedback straight away.

Funnily enough after escalating the claim with paypal/ebay, I received my item in the post today - from the UK. Postaged was dated 5th May 2010, I purchased it on 12th April.

Do I now need to contact paypal/ebay and tell them I received the product?

Also as regards feedback, should I just leave neutral feedback and state that, item was only delivered after I escalated a claim?

    Cheers

You can just close the dispute in Paypal, no need for any other contact.

Neutral or negative feedback would still seem fair. Since they only posted it 3 weeks after you paid, that's fairly poor performance, and should be noted on feedback.

Was it registered? What you do is up to your conscience?

btw eBay consider a week the max time a seller should leave it before posting out a paid for item.

It wasn't sent by registered post, but I could see the date stamp on the envelope.

I left negative feedback in the end. You don't have to much to write so just wrote

"Had to open dispute before receiving item. Seller never responded to my messages."
