Is it possible? I have some pretty urgent dental work(not mega urgent though) and I was told when I rang up to check on my application that it will take about 3 months to process!

My teeth will be in bits by then..

You could get on to your local councillor or TD and ask them to help.

I know my late mothers application for a medical card was fast tracked by our local councillor who was then on the board of the local HSE- she was terminally ill and in lung failure and needed oxygen, and to get the oxygen she needed a medical card- but that's going back a few years now so I don't know if the HSE is set up in the same way.

The medical card no longer covers dental - only extractions, do you want all your teeth pulled????

So i think its safe to say you will be a gummy bear unless you pay yourself.

I don't think you are correct there. The budget has been cut back to 2008 levels, that doesn't mean it doesn't still cover basic dentistry work such as fillings.

Thanks, and sorry about your mother:(

When I rang up the HSE and told them about my dental issue they said that they are only fast tracking individuals with terminal illness...

They are doing 2 fillings a year and 1 clean. I heard before that they stopped everything but extractions, looks like they keep changing their minds.

Under the proposed cuts, treatments including fillings and root canal work will only be allowed in approved emergency circumstances. "The HSE plan would mean patients with tooth decay will be offered an option of extraction or antibiotics. They will have no possibility of the tooth being filled or saved," said Mr Hourihan.
