Yes the words "I'll take it off your hands" would indicate exactly that, Did you think I meant I was going to steal if from him or something

    No need to get smart.
"I'll take it off your hands"
Means exactly that, that you will buy it...You never offered anything. And I just wanted to make sure. As I am willing to offer asking (next in line).

I'm offering the asking price Dread-Lock, I'll take it off his hands - for the price he asked

    And I'm not being smart.

Technically, that's not a valid offer. Yeah we sortof know what you meant by it but please be clearer in future.

You're correct, and in theory you were first to offer asking here so if you want this item then then I'll rule in your favour - if you're happy to interpret The_Joker's post as an offer and go second in line then this is also fine - I'll leave this option open for you for 24 hours.

    Let me know.

I knew I was right (as pretty much the same thing as this happened awhile back). And I was just trying to get Joker to make a solid offer so that there would be no arguments but it didn't really turn out that way :o.

    Many thanks Steve!

As long as I've been buying and selling items here it's the first time a caveat has been subjected against this wording, I've used the words 'I'll take it off your hands' and I've seen the words used many a time.
Once the seller and buyer understand what was meant and a deal is made that is what it all boils down to.

In this case both Hightower and myself knew what was meant i.e I was willing to take the pistol for the asking price.

For future reference I will use the words 'offer asking' which I mostly do.
I understand where your coming from Steve.

Dread-Lock I can see where your coming from but to ask Steve to cast his eye over it is a bit OTT
We all know what I meant and I'm quite sure you did too.
If you were miffed that someone else got an offer in before you that's understandable.
And my reply to you was not meant to be a smart one I answered in the same manner you asked your question.

The pistol is bought and paid for but if I sell it in the future Dread I'll give you first dibbs.

And if you say you'll take it off my hands I'll know what you mean :)

I didn't ask Steve to do anything, I didn't report this thread. Is it really that hard to believe that a mod might see a thread and do his job? So please don't accuse me of such. If I really wanted the pistol, why the hell would I get Steve to give a ruling on the thread and then take second in line?

And I'll be honest with you I really don't care that you got the pistol, I saw the thread pretty much straight after hightower put it up and I decided I'd think about it as I don't really want the 8" version.

Oh and no to me by saying "I'll take it off your hands" was just a sign of interest seeing as no offer was made. It happens a good bit around here and the mods always rule in favor of the person who actually makes an offer. And just because you've been doing things wrong for ages doesn't mean its right. At the end of the day the finale ruling of anything is given by the mods and it needs to be clear cut to them.

And your comment seemed smart to me, and the fact that you went back and edited your post just to put that line in just seemed to add to the fact that all you wanted to do was take a jab at me (yes, I did see that).

So can we please end this little pissing contest we've got going now?

    Are you finished?

Mods can you close this thread at both the OP and your discretion please as this item is sold.
    Thanks

Just to clear this one up:

    1. The adverts rules say:
    Valid offers are:
    "Offer €xx"
    "Offer asking price”
Please try not to be vague by saying:
    "I'm interested"
    "I'll take it"

    2. It's nobody's business to know if any post was reported or anyone sought the assistance of a mod unless that person is prepared to post it. It's my job to determine how the rules apply, not yours. :)
