Skoda Fabia or Renault Clio?

    Hello all!

I am in the market for my first new car ( thanks to scrappage deal) and I need help deciding which is the better buy. So the choice is a 5dr. Skoda Fabia Ambiente 1.2 or a 5dr. Renault Clio ethanol royale eco. 1.2

I have looked up car review websites and read a couple of car magazines and I am no nearer to deciding which the car for me. My head says the Fabia, as it is cheaper, but my heart says the clio ( is the fabia a 'granny car'?)

I live in a town, don't have huge weekly mileage. I want a car that is economical to run, decent boot size and very important a quiet car, as my last car was so noisy driving on the motorways it was impossible to hear the radio or the unfortunate individual sitting beside me in the car.
    Thanks, Luna.

My parents just collected a Clio, was very impressed with how quiet and refined it was, and that was a diesel. Of those two it would be the Clio, the interior of the Fabia is also pretty low rent.

    Clio by a country mile.

The Skoda 1.2 has a 3 cylinder engine which sounds and performs like a cement mixer. As mentioned above , the interior is low rent and by and large its out classed by everything from a main stream manufacturer in this segment i.e Clio, Corsa, Fiesta, Polo ( evey though its got the same crappy engine ) , even the Punto is better. Lots to choose from in this segment ;)

I would say the clio is a far nicer car but as a mechanic i would advise you to steer clear of anything with a renault badge-THEYRE BAD NEWS- would be far better shelling out an extra few bob and getting a fiesta or polo, they may be a bit deerer but will hold their value far better than renault or skoda. think of the long tearm, not just the 10 reg plate:)

Another vote for the Clio here. the Fabia is an awful looking yoke and has a sewing machine for an engine.

I think for about 400 sheets, Renault will give you a 5 year warranty on the Clio to allay any reliability doubts.

For what it's worth, the last generation Clio was most un-renault like in its reliability.
