Probably the same reason, so many Irish people were let into the UK, during the height of the IRA bombing campaigns in the UK. Basically, the vast majority of those being let in had nothing to do with the bombing campaign, and were judged on a individual basis, and if they did let in any members of the IRA, it was due to them having no information about it. Also, there is the whole common travel arrangement we have, and the EU, but they could have dumped that stuff if they wanted.

Well unfortunately a Terrorist ORganization (or whatever PC term you wish to use for them) tend to recruit insurgents for this kind of work that can show up clean on background checks and everything else. Also a paradigm noted by the evening news, you cant just blacklist certain countries because - kicker - said Organization will just recruit from a country that is not on the blacklist.

Basically if you're conniving enough, its not that far fetched.

Maybe because he didn't let them in on the fact that he planned to massacre people in Time Square. Either that, or the citizenship officer was just feeling generous...

Personally I doubt if any terrorist organisation would have wasted any of their recruits or resources on such an armature event as this.

It smells a rat, the only thing I can foresee happening is a massive clamp down on fireworks, restrictions in carrying inflammable materials in cars, (Gas clinders etc) a massive increase in urban surveillance and a possible excuse to invade another foreign country.

America once again on high alert. Never a better way to join a country together during times of political unrest, than to have a common enemy to be angry about.

May have been a loan nut acting on his own, after reading stuff on the Internet, and it would explain the amateurish nature of the whole thing. If there is an actual Pakistan Taliban link, then they must be in trouble, as they are more than capable of creating viable and deadly explosive devices, and have used them to terrible effect in Pakistan, via various terrorist attacks.

Yawn. Do you people never get bored with your conspiracy theories? Do you know how many conspirators it would take to set something like this up? How great the potential is for leaks? FFS, even the Dark Lord himself, Dick Cheney, couldn't stop the leaks about the Plame affair that almost brought him down, and resulted in criminal conviction for his Chief of Staff. Back in the 70s, Tricky Dicky couldn't stop the leaks which resulted in his disgrace. And yet people persist in believing that scores of American agents, presumably with the sanction of successive White House administrations, are involved in plotting faux atrocities on American soil? It's absurd.

In any event, why on earth would America want to invade anyone after the fiscal disasters that have been Iraq and Afghanistan? And if they did, why the hell would they go to the trouble of setting up a poxy bomb in Time Square? Seriously some people need to put the foil hats back in the cupboard and come back to reality.

What are you talking about? There are 11 million illegal immigrants working in America. Many have been there for years. I was in Boston for the J1 and the people I worked with were practically all illegals. They worked quite openly. And this in a state with one of the lowest Latino populations in the Union. Illegal immigrants in Ireland are dealt with far more severely than those in the US.

Those days are numbered. You won't be able to board a plane on an internal flight, drive a car, enter a federal building, get a job, bank account without it.

Thats because of the relative small population and the number of mouths about particularly in rural areas.

Nothing of the sort is likely to happen on a federal level. There's bi-partisan support for immigration reform in the states, including some form of amnesty for those already there. American immigration policy is no more rigorous than most other developed countries, and more liberal than some, so beyond the usual reflexive anti-Americanism, I don't see why they should be singled out for such criticism.

Well the short answer is he doesn't, cause he sucks at making bombs.

    Or

The conspiracy answer is: he was paid to do this as part of a 'false flag' operation. Sure everything, including 9/11 was faked. The Twin Towers are still standing, they just pay everyone in New York to pretend they were hit and use computer graphics to doctor photos and video footage. It's so obvious. There's no terrorists, the whole thing has been concocted to sell insurance premiums to wealthy middle class Europeans. Wake up and smell the java baby.

These days, due to recent events in Iceland, that expression has been changed to, "Wake up & smell the lava, baby"!

It's question B on the I-94W immigration form. "Are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immoral activities." Surely there's a question like that for people applying for citizenship, no? He must have lied...

(If you think I'm joking, here's the form: http://www.immihelp.com/visas/sample-i94w-form.pdf)

yeah, but we can all relate to illegals in the US of A (I know loads), but they work their ass off ,and make do as best as they can under a bad situation. how bad would it be if you couldnt get a bank card in Ireland to take out cash for the weekend booze up eh...

they dont have sinister thoughts into blowing up New York and our ancenstors built large parts of the States busting their balls.

The government can do what the hell they like now, I think they are an overzealous lot, and obviously quite useless and flawed., bender and the professor could do a better job.

Off topic but related, Just as the so called "Underwear Bomber" was allowed board a US bound Aircraft unchecked without a passport, I find an eerie similarities about the circumstance surrounding this recent guy, in the way he was naturalised, the sloppiness of the operationand the way he was arrested on a plane.

    very short answer.

    Anyone is eligible to become a US citizen if;

    1. They have lived legally in the US for 5 years (3 years if married to a US citizen)

    2. They have not been convicted of any crime while living in the US.

    3. They pass the citizenship test.

Who helped build the USA? Immigrants.

Seriously, how can you not see what's wrong with what you're saying? How exactly are they meant to discriminate between immigrants plotting an attack and genuine immigrants?
