Power adapter woes

Hope this is in the right place!

I think my laptop power-cord is fried :( It doesn't seem to charge the laptop anymore-since this evening-and the adaptor-part of the cord is making a high pitch bip-bip-bip sound if I listen closely. I presume its curtains? Anything I can do with it?

Major problem is that my thesis is on the laptop....so now I have the expense of a new power cord for an old laptop-which I would rather replace but need until I can extract all the stuff off it.

Have ordered one off Amazon but have no idea if it will fit ,so many model names, model nos., part nos etc :(

    What laptop is it?

But ye if it's fried it's fried, not worth repairing. They are usually cheap to buy so i'd just hold out for it. Would you have a friend with the same laptop to borrow the power lead to get important info off?

Some of the dell power adapters would make that high pitched beeping noise when they are buggered (I don't know if yours is a dell though). They do work from time to time after the beeping noise though so keep trying it every few hours. You might get lucky and get just enough time to copy the thesis to a usb memory stick. At least then you'll be able to still work on it.

If it is a dell you could try and contact them and see if they'll send you a new one. Even if it's out of warranty they may be send one out.

If you could post up the make and model of the laptop we can try and help you source the right one.

    Hey Alanstrainor,

Toshiba Equium m50-216, it's a few years old and I don't know anyone that has anything similar :(

I knew it would happen eventually but of course I've been procrastinating with the thesis.....now suddenly working on it feels a bit more urgent! You know how it is....

Hopefully the new cable will fit. Having problems with the laptop a bit more lately anyway. Blue screen errors, running out of memory etc.

Any suggestions for something similar but more up-to-date.....or am I just being plain lazy now?! Budget E500 ish!!
