Car Tax / NCT

I have just purchased a new (second hand) car which I need to tax, but the NCT is also due on the car. Do I have to get the car NCT'd first before I can tax it or can I get it taxed first. The car was first registered in April 2006. The reason I'm asking is that I am trying to get a date for the NCT but there is none available for the next 2 months (online, in any test centre) and I don't think it's a good idea to have the car untaxed for that long.

get it taxed first and then NCT. They will not test your car if there's no valid tax disc in windscreen.

That was the case a few years ago where you had to have an nct to tax it, but not any more.So tax it first.

Thanks for the reply, the only reason I asked is that the RF100A looks for a road worthiness certificate.

    Thanks again

I'm not sure that's true, but I would agree with taxing it first.

If you ring the NCT you can get an appointment faster. I was only waiting 1 week, when online was a couple of months.

They will do NCT without vehicle being taxed.
They will TAX vehicle without NCT.

To stay on the correct side of the law, book an nct and get it taxed while waiting for nct.

Leave that space blank, you can still tax it.

    Sounds like the best solution.

That's not correct at all. I just NCT'ed a car a few weeks ago with no tax disc.
