15 Kilo Limit Golf Bags Aer LIngus

Just back from golf trip Spain last weekand and was charged extra 72 Euro excess for exceeding 15 Kilo weight limit for golf bag by Aer Lingus. Silly part of all this was that one of the lads unloaded his bag before check in desk and then loaded up bag again before passing over his golf bag to oversize baggage area and saved a lot of money. Hopefully this will help somebody as the 15 Kilo limit is quite restrictive!

That's ridiculous, how do they expect oversize bags/sports goods to weight in under 15kgs. Surely they shouldn't be allowed charge for these oversize bags if they're then going to rip you off for every kg over their restrictive limit. Why can't the authorities impose a realistic 20kgs or even 25kgs limit since you're paying extra for the bag anyway. Would put you off sporting holidays altogether. I know the same restrictive policies exist when trying to bring a bike box with a bike inside, the box alone could be near 6 or 7kgs so doesn't leave any weight for a moderately weighted bicycle.
I remember 10 years ago I was coming back from a year in France with a load of gear including by clubs and they were just classified as normal luggage. I was something like 30kgs over the then 25kg baggage limit but the kind woman behind the Air France desk only charged me for 5kgs I think it was. How times have changed for the worst concerning flying and airports
