More crazy Irish car prices

I am looking at buying a 1.4 diesel cars new.

Unfortunately most of the salesman I have spoken to or visited in dealerships are useless. Every question asked is answered with BS or they have to go off and check with someone else. Any car issues or questions regarding servicing usually end with "I will look into that".

I have phoned more crap dealer's that have salesmen with crap attitudes that know nothing about the cars they are selling.

A toyota stealership near palmerstown, I went in looking for new prices (scrappage and cash), 3 salespeople talking, all briefly look over and 1 wanders over.

Me: I want prices scrappage and cash on new 1.4 diesels please

Sales: ok, have a seat, he asked this 3 times

Me: no thanks, i just want prices

Sales: I cannot give out prices without your details, otherwise how would I know what deal we agree.

Me: You can write them on a piece of paper at the back of the brochure, goodbye.

One citroen dealer near Enfield has a citroen c3 demo 1.4 hdi with 301 miles on the clock, advertised at 700 euro more than a new one. When asked about the price I was told he would take my number and get back to me with the price they could do it for.

This is just not good enough. WTF are these guys doing all day.

Is there anyone here who has had excellent service or are these car salespeople just a waste of space.

Has the time come just to order direct from manufacturer and do away with all types of agents?

    This is getting so old.

Maybe they didn't want a trade in of an R75 or a used Ducati

OP , you seem to have talked to every car sales in the country. Sooner or later some of them are going to feel like you're wasting their time.

From your previous posts im pretty sure they all pick up on your negativity from the off and just peg the fact that you want to have an argument rather than buy a car. It works both ways. If you want to buy something from me then take as long as you need, if you're back in for yet another chat / browse / argument then you're costing me money.......Tell me do you work for nothing?

I had excellent service from both Linders in Chapelizod and Grange Motors in Mullingar.

    OP,

Do you really expect the Salesman to write his "best price" on the back of a brochure because then you would simply swipe another brochure, write your cheaper price on it and march back into the dealership looking for said price.

The reason for getting your details is so they can look back when you trundle back in a few weeks later and see what the price you agreed with is what they will offer because other people will haggle a better or worse deal.

I have had trouble with dealers ignoring me in dealership as well but as soon as you get their attention and they realise there might be some "mileage" in you then will be all over you for your money.

I don't know what to tell you but you MUST assume a salesman wants to sell a car so don't give them too much jip about being a car salesman, snake oil salesman etc. Get a good deal, get a car and then worry about the saps who work in the service department who you will invariably meet further on.

I agree i feel sorry for salesmen for having to listen to tripe like this. If he has such a problem why dont he go to the uk or ni if he thinks they are so nice.. Judging from previous posts the problem could be with his attitude and manner more than a salesman...

It's more a complaint about service than about "crazy Irish car prices".

I haven't read OP's posts in the past but if he has this attitude like he had in this post then, sorry, I wouldn't talk with him either. :(

Your attitude stinks. You were politely asked to take a seat to discuss and you just gave him lip. If he just fired a random price you would be here bitching about it also.

Oh, and I wouldn't wear the OP, either........

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

This is textbook carsales technique, and if you give out prices without taking a customer's contact details you'll more than likely get a slap in the head from the sales manager.
The thinking is "we've spent a fortune on our dealership, our advertising, etc. etc. in order to have people walk through the door with an interest in buying a car. If you give out best price to a customer without giving yourself the ability to follow them up, you've wasted our money and time."

Call an Irish dealer and ask for pricing on an Audi A4, then call Isaac Agnew's for the same thing. You may get a price out of the Irish salesperson, you may not (hopefully not), but if you call Agnew's you won't be able to even talk to a salesperson until the receptionist has your name and phone number.

The UK dealers that you praise so much are far more fastidious about taking control of the interaction and getting contact details than the Irish dealers are.

OP, just take your money to the UK and stay there, please.

I don't want your custom, and I'm sure any of the other sales guys I know wouldn't either.

Your not a customer - your a moaner. I could probably offer you the best price in the country on most cars you want, but I cant be arsed doing you the favour because your attitude stinks. You've come on here time and time again to insult my job, my trade, my livelyhood. The same trade I have a lot of friends and family in.

Your also starting to remind me of a famous old person who used to post in here a long time ago about the price of UK cars compared to Irish ones, in particular BMW's, just like you. Its funny, cos he also had a Rover 75.

Dont bother posting in motors unless you actually have something informative and interesting to add.

It would appear the OP no longer likes this game, so he's taking his ball and going home.

I do suspect it won't be the last time someone posts in here moaning about dealers not giving him cars for free, and how much cheaper BMW's are in the UK - because it certainly wasn't the first time.

There have been a few different (sic) posters with the same bile being spewed, but they all seem to have been deleted. ConlonBMW, LoveDucati2, Phonebox and I'm sure a couple more that I can't remember.

Oh, and what Drummerboy said above.

I should update this with my most recent experience with a BMW dealership in Limerick. Conlon & Sons.

I walked in the door of the dealership at 8:50am, lights were only being switched on and the Salesman Jack acknowledged me immediately and greeted me by the time I reached his desk.

He was very helpful, showed me the vehicles I was interested in and gave me a 2010 525d to take for a spin knowing that I wouldn't buy it anyway as it was 3 series I was interested in. He said "You need to drive this car".

He asked me what I needed the car for, work, amount of kids, dogs etc and broke down the differences between the specs of the 3 series.

He had UK import which were literally being taken off the truck at the time. One he showed me still had the UK reg plates in the boot it was so fresh off the boat.

He immediately gave me the list price and gave me the amount of discount that would be given off each different car when I asked. No messing around.

Now I drove into this dealership in a 04 Micra wearing a pair of jeans and a rugby jersey. Most people would argue that I am not the standard BMW customer and probably would be ignored but I had a great experience so lets hope Im lucky enough to get a BMW as a company car.

That's not for you to request. Report posts and/or just don't post in threads by the OP if you've a problem.

OP is now site banned, so thread closed.
