New Zealand is abuzz with speculation about the reason behind one of the most bizarre interviews in recent memory - when Hurricanes and All Blacks centre Ma'a Nonu let rip with a series of expletives in a live post-match interview.

According to Yahoo!Xtra Sport, Nonu let rip in a bizarre interview - filled with seven swear words, following his side's Super 14 win against the Chiefs on Saturday.

Some are now wondering if it was not, perhaps, a joke gone wrong...
Minutes after the 33-27 win that kept the Hurricanes in play-off contention, Nonu took part in an interview with Radiosport in which he dropped several 'f-bombs'.

Radiosport sideline commentator Daniel McHardy asked: "What's going through your mind that was an amazing game to watch what was it like to play in?"

Nonu - who scored a crucial try - replied: "It's one of these games that makes rugby so spectacular, after they got a lead of 24-8 or something, f*** we were on our tryline and f*** everyone didn't know what was hitting us, then 50 minutes later we came out on top and scored a f***** last minute try and get this f***** bonus point."

With laughter coming from the commentary box, McHardy held his composure to ask Nonu whether he thought the season was gone when Callum Bruce lined up a potential match-winning penalty for the Chiefs.
Nonu continued with his tirade, saying: "I never think our season is gone,

I've always backed myself for this team and after I scored that fluke try I thought 'Mate we've got to f***** hold onto the ball in the last five minutes'.

"And then they get a penalty mate. Typical Hurricanes games mate... last-minute penalty, two minutes to go and it's like f*** it's all over again. We get a steal from our line and Hosea makes a big break beyond their line he misses the kick f***** score after the hooter's gone," he said.

The bizarre interview did not end there. Bizzarely, despite swearing six times within a minute, Nonu then went on to declare that he "plays for the kids".

McHardy suggested to Nonu: "Mate you should be a commentator. I think we've figured out your career."

Nonu then replied: "I think one thing about commentator's mate is all those legends that have played, they've all become commentators. Me I play for the people and for the kids. I'll just spend some time at the TAB really."

The clip was played on Radiosport's breakfast show on Monday, with host Mark Richardson querying whether Nonu was genuine, saying afterwards "clearly someone has had to put him up to that".

Listen to the Nonu interview (from the 3.03 mark) here.

Probably doesn't deserve its own thread but it's some interview. :pac:

The Hurricanes' All Black midfielder Ma'a Nonu has been 'sanctioned' by his franchised and forced to apologised for an expletive-laden radio outburst after his team's 33-27 Super 14 win over the Chiefs last Saturday.

Nonu completed an extraordinary interview soon after the match using the F-word seven times when answering two questions.

The All Blacks centre was upbeat about his performance in the interview with NewstalkZB, having scored two tries, but on Tuesday admitted he overstepped the mark.

"After a tough game there was a bit of emotion flying around," he told reporters at Hurricanes training.

"I guess, being a professional sportsman you've got to be responsible for what you say. At the end of the day it hurts a lot of people.

"It's a shame it happened and I just want to apologise to all the fans out there and a lot of listeners . . . it wasn't meant to be like that, but it was a bit of intense emotion coming out."

Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper said team management had applied a sanction on the 27-year-old but wouldn't reveal specifics.

Nonu's interview included the following opening response: "After they got a lead of I think it was 24-8 or something, f**** we were on our tryline and f*** everyone's just, what was hitting us. And 60 minutes later we come on top and we scored a f**** last minute try to get a f**** bonus point."

His interviews are as blunt and direct as his rugby

I don't see how this is remotely strange. Does anyone think this is not how he talks normally? He was probably just pumped up after the match and forgot to switch to dull, safe, after-match platitude mode.
