Last week I replied to a job advertised for a driving instructor, something I have thought about doing on and off in the past. It is with a driving school I have heard of, though never personally used.
When the company called me about my application they explained how it would work, asked questions about my driving history and then told me that I would have to undergo a driving assessment before I could even be interviewed for the job. The assessment is to cost me €111.
Has anyone else had any experience of this? I am not working regularly at the moment so I'm not willing to just fork out €111 without knowing how likely I am to get the job. They asked me for my credit/laser card details straight away but I asked her to call me back tomorrow.

Any advice for me, aside from get as much information tomorrow as I can from her?? :)

    Thanks.

Okay I bet they are based in Finglas. Now if im right they are promising you the earth and back again.
They will give you the assesment and tell you that you are brilliant and then you will have to pay for training.
They will then make you pay for your ADI exams for yourself . They will promise you work but guess what! > no driving school has any work at the moment and you will only get paid for what you do .

Steer Clear ( Pardon the pun ) Thats how this company is surviving. They are as quiet as Dublin Airport at the moment.

Totally agree with the guys. I believe you were talking to Airport Driving School or someone like that. I had the same situation. Don't bother is all I say. It sounds like a scam and that I almost fell for. Any organisation that is not prepared to interview you at least before doing the test is not worth their salt.

I had the same experience. Airport Driving School have jobe advertised all over the place, how can they be the only company in Ireland advertising jobs continuosly for the past few years? Complete scam I found out.
Talk to the guys in ISM, they are honest and will put you straight on the whole driving school industry.

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I wanted to warn people that they are still at it. After been talked into doing the course and forking out over 200euro they are now refusing to refund it 24 hours later. the course hasn't even started. I'm perfectly entitled to the money back as every contact sold where the person is not physically present is entitled to a 7 day cooling off period, and they made the sale over the phone.

Off to the small claims court we go...

These are advertising ‘jobs’ today. It is likely that they are not providing jobs, but providing training instead, after which you’ll have to paddle your own canoe having paid them thousands for the training. I’ll be steering clear. Thanks guys on this thread for the alert, I nearly took the bait.

    Are they still at it?

Can confirm. Went for an interview recently (should have done my research first!), and alarm bells should have rang when he mentioned a 99e test of my driving efficiency.

EDIT: Was also quick to ask about how I'd be paying (I said I'd need to think about it first).

    How is this legal?

Do they assess your driving in your vehicle or one of theirs?
