Query about Cobra S2 irons

    Hi,

I've been trawling through this forum regarding buying new irons and while theres a lot of support for Cobra S9's, I've not found a whole lot about s2's. Are they as good an iron as the s9? I've seen a review on golfalot.com saying that the s2 is for the low handicap player but read contradictory remarks on sites such as golfstoreeurope, nevadabobs and mcguirks saying they're for everyone. I'm hoping to pick up a decent set of improver irons and was hoping these might fit the bill.

I've also read good things about mizuno mx100 and mx200s and was wondering which is more applicable to someone with notions of improving themselves after a lengthy spell away from the game.

My handicap used to be 14 but after 6 years out, I'm a little rusty and hit +27 on my first day back. I spoke to the guy in the pro shop afterwards and he tried to sell me a set of Wilson Di9s but I wasnt sure about them without researching first. Overall, I've a budget of about 500 euro and was hoping to get something that would last a while. Has anyone any recommendations to add to above? Thanks

I too am in the market for new clubs. The S2's are the replacement for the S9's. Reports for them are good. And I'm pretty sure they're aimed at mid-high handicapers.
I hit some recently out at Kinsealy driving range and found them lovely to hit. A friend of mine is buying a set of them this week as he loves them.
I will be buying in a couple of months and may go for them myself.
I myself would have a handicap of about 22 and you probably wouldn't be too far off that.
My advice would be to go to a driving range and hit some clubs and see what feels best to you. If you are based in Dublin, Kinsealy Driving range is ideal. The McGuirks attached allow you to try out their demo clubs, and they have a lot.
Others to consider apart from the S2 are the Mizunos 100/200, Wilson Di9s, Nike Machspeed, Callaway Diablo Edge, Callaway X22 , Ping G15 , Taylormade Burner Plus...they're all good clubs, but you will prefer some to others, so best to hit some balls with them rather than leap in and buy without trying...
they vary in price between €350 and €500 approx (apart from the Pings which are 600 - shame, as I like them)

Others here will advise on other clubs,as there are plenty more good ones out there for you to choose from ....

    Best of luck with it...

    Zak.
