As the title says really. From what I can see it's a beautiful place that not a lot of people go to.

Anyone have any experiences of it? What's the cheapest way to get there?

Was there many years ago, I think in May, as water was still a bit fresh for swiming. Reminded me a lot of the west of Ireland, warmer of course, but wild and rugged with lots of twisty narrow roads and stone walls. Stayed in a tent on a beach with a few others, so can't report any social life.

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

Does actually look like a nice version of Galway in the pictures :D

So how did you get there? I can't find any flights into there, so I presume you fly into Italy and get a boat or something?

Anyone else know anything about the place?

Think you can get a ferry from Nice in the south of France to Corsica

What I did was flew into Sardinia, rented a car. Spent a few days in Sardinia, then got a short car ferry to Corsica and spent a few days there.

    Ryanair fly to Sardinia.

Hertz allowed you to bring the car accross to Corsica, not all rental companies allowed this.

Where in Sardinia do they fly to? Cagliari? Can't find a Ryanair flight to there from Dublin or Shannon :(

Cagliari to Corsica is a bit of a treck too without renting out a car, only planning on going for 5 days or so.

They fly to Alghero. All very doable in that time frame if you have a car, distances are small. No idea if you've no car.

or you can fly to paris then take a plane from there to ajaccio. Last time i went we took the ferry from Nice but was a complete nightmare both on the way out and on the way back. If you do use this option, allow plenty of time for connecting flights.

Plan coming together now, bout time too!

We're planning to fly into Alghero rent a car and stay in an apartment in Corsica for a week. Flights are €250 with Ryanair for all 3 of us return. Car from Hertz would be another €250.

Have no idea where to find an apartment or a decent rental car though. The Hertz ones are awful.

Corsica is heaven on earth! It's the best of the Med and the Alps together, and special food, drink, music, architecture...Never killingly hot because of the sea and mountain breeze, though bring on the sunblock! I just love it so much, unfortunately don't go every year! There's so much to see, and yet the distances are not great. I think there's a lovely train journey through the mountains North-South...
It's slightly expensive compared to some other areas of France, get your food in a supermarket, or enjoy pizzas and ice-cream. If you go off-peak you get much better deals hotel-wise. Air France (Air Corsica) from Paris to Ajaccio is handy and could be ok price-wise if you book early. They have discounts for families.
The people are very proud, very intelligent, but not always friendly on first approach, but love Irish people ( the rebels' common cause!).
Every person I know that has been there talks about it as the most beautiful place they've been too.
    I'm depressed I can't go this summer.:(

Sounds nice. What is nightlife like in Corsica and Sardinina? Are they the type of places where the towns are deserted at 9 o clock?

Most villages would have a few cafes/ bars open until midnight or one and a nightclub in the immediate area open till really late, though not every night. The latter mightn't be great, though fun! In the holiday season, a lot of entertainment is available: open air cinema, bals, festivals, fairs, concerts... There's always something on near.
The Corsicans go to bed quite late, with long evenings drinking Cap Corse or Muscat and watching the girls/ lads go by...No heavy hassling like in Italy, though.

Got this as a foot passenger 11 years ago - due to some bad planning (by the guy who organised it), the ferry trip took a lot longer than we expected. We sailed into one port at one side of the island (can't remember the name), stayed overnight and caught the train to the other side to catch the return ferry. Except the train broke down several times in the mountains and we ended up sprinting down the pier to get on the ferry.

But what we did see of Corsica was fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

    Hi,

I am planning to go to Corisca in Sept 2010 with my partner and looking for accommodation information. We are hoping to stay around Santa Giulia/porto vecchio area, but cant seem to find anything suitable.
    Does anyone have any tips?

    thanks
