Morgan and Wright are ripping the WI apart, just taking 27 off the over

Great "backward flip" by Morgan for 4

England 172-4 with 2 overs to go, with Morgan closing in on his 50, and a partnership of 87 so far

Morgan gone for 55. Almost outscored Ireland's total on his own.

    England 191-5

England had a great start, taking full advantage of the powerplay. They lost their wickets in the middle, when the strike rate dropped significantly, but Morgan (55 off 35) and Wright (45 off 27) really picked it up in the end with Morgan being particularly creative with his strokes

I suspect WI will need a great innings from Gayle to give themselves a chance (or rain in the first 5 overs)

Any good live stream for this? I have it on http://www.criclk.info/ but not fantastic.

Well the rain came after Gayle gave the WI a great start - revised total 60 off 6 overs, now needing 27 off the last 3

    Great stumping by Kieswetter.

Gayle gone, then great stumping of Pollard by Kieswetter off a wide

    18 off 15 required

Well, I'll probably watch England v Ireland tomorrow but the daft shortening of the match turns an already dubious format into total farce - might as well toss a coin.

Who decided 5 overs is enough for a result? Bit of a joke really. Should be 10 at the very least.

Who decided 5 overs is enough for a result? Bit of a joke really. Should be 10 at the very least.

A few years ago 20 overs per team would have been considered a bit of a joke. T20 relies on entertainment, fast pace and positive results, and this drives the 5 over rule (which is broadly proportionate to longer forms of the 1-day game)

DL, in theory at least, should take all this into account. I personally think the one odd thing is that WI had 2.2 overs of powerplay, allowing them to establish a very good start before the rain came. The powerplay was done away with when they resumed. What I don't know is if DL takes any account of this

Ultimately both teams know the rules, and both would have batted second if they won the toss, purely because of the uncertainty caused by the weather. Arguably, with hindsight, winning the toss was more important than the respective merits of the two teams this evening, but this is often the case in all forms of the game.

So, as judgement day said, you may as well toss a coin

They did - WI won the toss and the match:D

However between tossing the coin and winning the match, there was actually some terrific entertainment

I reckon a significant proportion of cricket results at the top level are decided by the toss (probably more so with Test matches than any other form of the game)

It was a bit of a dud result for England, but as you say Beasty, the toss has huge impact on results, especially in Day/Nighters. England have had luck with D/L before (after some bad maths from WIndies coaching team in a 50 over game).

Colly was obviously upset, but the fans got to see a game, a very close game and without D/L there probably wouldn't have been a game at all. Not sure how much tinkering with the method they could do.

Makes the England/Ireland game a winner takes all game now
