In general it would be very hard to get into lecturing with a degree and no work experience.

Would it be possible to contact your college and ask for unpaid work experience as a teaching assistant to get you started?

Good idea Mate..Im just looking for Ideas and direction at the moment as i dont no what direction to go in.

I have read the sticky regarding how to become a lecturer at the top of the page , but some of the questions i have are not answered in it.

Would i better better doing a Masters degree and would that enable me to get one foot in the door regarding becoming a Marketing Lecturer..

The job requirements for a lecturer in an IT stipulate that a candidate must have at least 3 years post-grad work experience. A masters won't change that. :)

However, a Masters appears to be the minimum requirement these days, so you would need that, plus the three years post-grad experience, in my opinion.

    Thanx Tom for the info.

So going into my local IT and seeing if i could get some experience even doing a few hours a week night class's would be a start??

this is going to sound quite ignorant, I don't mean to offend. But why should someone pay the amount of money it costs to attend college to be taught by a recent graduate with a 2.2 and absolutly no experience in the workplace?

Get your masters, get a job and work for a few years. At the minute you only know about marketing through books, and your results show that even that is quite limited. Having industry experience will make you more knowledgeable on the area you are lecturing in.

I would like to be a lecturer one day too, but I would not consider doing it until I hit my forties. I want to work in the industry first and gain some experience.

Well, you could try it, but the position would still require three years post-grad experience.

I am very similar to you especially in relation to the marketing lecturer dream!

I finished my degree in 07 and worked for a year unfort not really in my field at all apart from 3 months of that year! So I was advised by lecturers in my college to complete the marketing masters which I did! Stil out of work since last october (masters course was one year full time) and Its driving me mental :( Bare in mind I loved the masters saying that it is very tough.

I have been told by these lecturers the same as above that you need a min 3 years post grad experience but its impossible to get :(

I would def advise you to do the masters as you will be nearer to it than you are now! I think you can get accepted to the masters with a 2:1 I am not sure thou!

I run a private college in Dublin and have loads of local lecturers working for me. Sorry to say I wouldn't give you a look in without at least a Masters and quite a few years work experience. Times are tough and there are loads of people out there with far more experience.

Hi there. Not rising as far as the ITs, I would love to give ECDL classes, Computer or Manual Bookkeeping etc etc in my local community school. Obviously I have all these myself (queen of Fetac at this stage, plus an Hons Accounting Degree, accounting technician, some ITI Tax exams, Microsoft office expert) and work in this field for many years. But if I am sending my CV to the coordinator what will he be looking for??????? I have a lot of 'stuff' but no idea how to tie it together because I am in a completely different field. Help??;)
