Are all job sites as bad as Jobs.ie?

Just a simple search for jobs in Galway returns a mixture of:
    -bull**** work from home scams
    -bull**** "promo work" scams
-bull**** "run your own business" scams

and then when you do stumble across a genuine job, the location is in Dublin/Limerick/Mayo/Midlands.

Job seeking is genuinely more of a task than most jobs I've worked in!

The problem isn't really Jobs.ie... there just aren't that many jobs out there at the moment.

I have applied for 108 positions at jobs.ie one or two replies no interviews and still no job after one year and 55 euro on a cv update .
jobs.ie is a dublin based site does not care at all .

If you don't get any replies what do you show the social welfare office to prove you've been looking for work?

It's a pain in the arse.

What does being a Dublin based company have to do with it

As a Dublin-based individual myself, your location makes no difference at all.
There are no jobs out there. Or at least what is out there, is in a small number of very specialised fields.. All the rest of us can go hang, apparently.

    I feel your pain.:mad:It's infuriating.

Jobs.ie is a pretty bad site alright, and from what I've heard it's well known for it!! You should check out Irishjobs.ie. Just did a quick search on both sites there as a comparison for a specific IT job - Jobs.ie returns approx 10 jobs, Irishjobs.ie returns approx 10 pages of jobs!! Speaks for itself

I wouldn't view getting 10 pages of results as a good sign since there clearly isn't enough genuine jobs out there to fill 10 pages. There not real.

To apply to a website for 108 different jobs and not get as much as an interview is the pits . To pay 55 euro to have my CV updated by jobs.ie and not do any good is a rip off .
Trying to contact anybody at jobs.ie is impossible .
Been Dublin based as is jobs.ie is significant in that you cant contact them
they dont even know where longford cavan or westmeath is .
Even the fas jobs have local offices

Yep pretty much all are the same, Jobs.ie is hilarious whereby they give a misleading impression of lots of jobs by placing listed positions in various categories. Just today i noticed 137 chef jobs, over 200 hotel & catering positions and over 100 bar restaurant jobs. The problem being each category is repeated under a different header thus giving the impression there are lots of jobs in this sector which i know from experience is complete BS. I also notice this particular site gives no confirmation of applications sent, unlike irishjobs.ie

One positive addition to most recruitment sites is the facility to exclude Vulture, Vulgar and incompetent Recruitment agencies, most of whom advertise fictitious jobs in the first place.

Have to disagree. To a certain extent yes some of them are duplicates but the majority of the jobs are not fake, they are for completely different roles/companies. Plus these in particular are in the IT sector which is still one area mainly unaffected by the recession.

jobs.ie does not care because its an online site and never has to meet speak or discuss

I have to agree with this- Im recruiting for 9 graduate roles in the same company at the moment- 3 Web Content/SM Marketeers, 3 Graphic Designers and 3 Developers- the jobs are actually for three different projects/websites in the same company but the ads are virtually the same except for slight twinges on role specific tasks. Looking at it myself I'd nearly think that the jobs were duplicates but I can assure you with the price of advertising on these sites I ain't dealing in duplicates ;)

Get in touch if anyone is interested in these positions too :)

Jobs.ie, much like boards.ie, is only as good as what people put onto it. If they started moderating listings, they would have to make decisions themselves about what is/isn't genuine - and as we've seen it's not always easy to know.

I've had some work out of jobs.ie. Not a lot, and in one case I did have to threaten a market research company with legal action before they moved their ass*es to actually pay me. But even some of the so-called scam jobs can be a source of revenue if you're desperate enough.

I've had no success from jobs.ie but almost every job I've applied to on irishjobs.ie I've gotten a reply from, in fact last week I got an interview and job offer!!

Granted, that could just be coincidence but I love irishjobs.ie. I searched by company and then you can cut out the bs jobs (much friendlier looking that jobs.ie search by company! very black and white and cold)

I did however spot the ridiculous myhorizon concept which at best is a waste of space and at worst a cynical money making exercise, much the same as these ludicrous offers (fees attached of course) to help candidates write or improve resumes.

It's very disheartening to apply for so many jobs and get no interviews. But in fairness to Jobs.ie, they just advertise the jobs, they aren't an agency and they don't decide who gets called to interview.

I was let go last Jan, applied for plenty of jobs on jobs.ie and heard back a few times, applied for one in June on Jobs.ie, i'll admit that I then searched the companies own site and applied for it on that but I feel that jobs.ie still deserves the credit. Employed now since July because I saw the job on jobs.ie.

Also I find it the easiest to navigate.
