    Any chance we can start a list of cards or USB devices that are compatible with the latest DVB-T signal, and what Os's they work with?

    I dying to get my hands on a linux compatible device?

    I've been using the hauppauge 900 series USB stick http://hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_hvr900.html for years now and find it very handy. It has both analogue and DTT tuners and works with Irish and UK DTT. You also have full text and subtitling etc, and a line-in facility. Originally €60 from Peats was a bit pricey but that was when DTT was still a novelty here.
    AFAIK they work with Linux or a driver is coming soon.

    Do you mean DVB-T2 signals or DVB-T with MPEG4 / H.264 video?

    99% of DVB-T devices for Windows will work with Irish DTT once there is a H.264 decoder installed on your system.

    When shopping for a DVB-T device for a Windows system, you should try and find out if it uses a BDA driver. Most do. If it uses a BDA driver, it allows the device to be used in 3rd party software if the software bundled with the device cannot do H.264.

    If shopping for a DVB-T device for Linux, check the link above and research your chosen card. Google the card name and linux distro together to see if there are any issues.

    DVB-T with MPEG4 / H.264 video !

    Trying to setup the DTT on a Linux MythTV box, will check that list, thanks for your help.

    Using a SAA7231 Triple Capture card which came with a Medion PC from Aldi. The card supports Analog, DVB-S and DVB-T and comes with a BDA driver. Can receive Digital Terrestrial and Astra Satellite. I have had it working with Windows Media Centre on Windows 7, DVBViewer and MediaServer.

    Received this today:
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.28891

    Price was just under €12

    Installed easily on Windows machine in minutes with supplied software:
    DirectX9
    BlazeHDTV Deluxe Player

    Has all the features I think I will need.

    Will attempt to install on Linux machine later.

    At this price it has to be a bargain.

    I assume your using windows XP ? If so you'll need a h264 codec. I personally avoid FFdshow like the plague I find it completely screws up my codecs, it seems to hijack my system preference. There are a number of free codec that will do the job nicely, DIVX have a nice one in their codec bundle. You may also need to install haali media splitter.

    There is a nice pack called HDpack 2.2 if you give it a google you can download it. It contains the DIVX h264 codec, haali spliter and also other h264 codecs as well as HD audio codecs. I'd recommend you select only one of each type of codec on your system.

    Just to add some balance I personally think for Irish DTT FFdshow is a really good option. It's only software based decoding* but it does the job a lot better (no pixelation or breakup of image) than most I have tried, especially when the signal strength / level is not optimum.

    *the hardware accelerated ffdshow h.264 codec doesn't work very well with DTT at the moment

    Hi Bob_Harris (or anyone that may be able to help),
    I'm at my wits end trying to get my new USB DVB -T Dongle working.
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.28891

    As already stated this worked out of the box with my Windows machine.

    On my Linux (Ubuntu 10.4) machine it appears to recognise the card alright:

    desktop kernel: [ 29.162256] dvb-usb: found a 'Afatech USB2.0 DVB-T Recevier' in warm state.
    desktop kernel: [ 29.162880] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
    desktop kernel: [ 29.165862] DVB: registering new adapter (Afatech USB2.0 DVB-T Recevier)
    May 31 23:35:59 desktop kernel: [ 29.183623] DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (AF901X USB DVB-T)...
    desktop kernel: [ 29.188529] dvb-usb: Afatech USB2.0 DVB-T Recevier successfully initialized and connected.
    -desktop kernel: [ 29.188909] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_af901x

    When i run a scan of my local TX:

    # T freq bw fec_hi fec_lo mod transmission-mode guard-interval hierarchy
    T 578000000 8MHz AUTO AUTO AUTO AUTO AUTO NONE

    I get following output:

    scanning crosshaven
    using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
    initial transponder 578000000 0 9 9 6 2 4 0
    >>> tune to: 578000000:INVERSION_AUTO:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_AUTO:FEC_AUTO:QAM_AUTO:TRANSMISSION_MODE_AUTO:GUARD_INTERVAL_AUTO:HIERARCHY_NONE
    WARNING: filter timeout pid 0x0011
    WARNING: filter timeout pid 0x0000
    WARNING: filter timeout pid 0x0010
    dumping lists (0 services)
    Done

    And doesn't pick up any channels.I'm sure the signal is strong enough as I say I can pick up a good strong signal using same USB/antenna on a Windows machine.
    The driver appears to be the latest.

    Any help or advice would be much appreciated. (As you can tell I'm a Linux Noob!)

    Cheers in advance.

    Are you using the scan application?

    If so, try the -5 switch
    usage: scan [options...] [-c | initial-tuning-data-file]
    	atsc/dvbscan doesn't do frequency scans, hence it needs initial
    	tuning data for at least one transponder/channel.
    	-c	scan on currently tuned transponder only
    	-v 	verbose (repeat for more)
    	-q 	quiet (repeat for less)
    	-a N	use DVB /dev/dvb/adapterN/
    	-f N	use DVB /dev/dvb/adapter?/frontendN
    	-d N	use DVB /dev/dvb/adapter?/demuxN
    	-s N	use DiSEqC switch position N (DVB-S only)
    	-i N	spectral inversion setting (0: off, 1: on, 2: auto [default])
    	-n	evaluate NIT-other for full network scan (slow!)
    	-5	multiply all filter timeouts by factor 5
    		for non-DVB-compliant section repitition rates
    	-o fmt	output format: 'zap' (default), 'vdr' or 'pids' (default with -c)
    	-x N	Conditional Access, (default -1)
    		N=0 gets only FTA channels
    		N=-1 gets all channels
    		N=xxx sets ca field in vdr output to :xxx:
    	-t N	Service select, Combined bitfield parameter.
    		1 = TV, 2 = Radio, 4 = Other, (default 7)
    	-p	for vdr output format: dump provider name
    	-e N	VDR version, default 3 for VDR-1.3.x and newer
    		value 2 sets NIT and TID to zero
    		Vdr version 1.3.x and up implies -p.
    	-l lnb-type (DVB-S Only) (use -l help to print types) or
    	-l low[,high[,switch]] in Mhz
    	-u UK DVB-T Freeview channel numbering for VDR

    	-P do not use ATSC PSIP tables for scanning
    	    (but only PAT and PMT) (applies for ATSC only)
    	-A N	check for ATSC 1=Terrestrial [default], 2=Cable or 3=both
    	-U	Uniquely name unknown services

    Thanks for quick response.
    Yah I'm using the SCAN util and I had actually tried the -5 switch.
    Other than taking longer it had the same result.
    Also tried the w_scan util with similar results.

    I picked up an old Pinnacle 300i dual analogue/DTV card from the UK. Originally supplied for UK Freeview and I was fairly hopeful it would work here, given the chips on the card, but it cost nothing so I wasn't too worried if not. Turned out that DVBViewer (€15 well spent) was the thing it needed. That, and ffdshow decoder has it flying. :) I simply use the analogue side of it for TV3 and watch RTE in digital.

    i've picked up two DVB_T USB sticks from ebay for less than 15 euros each. both have worked fine for DTT, both in their supplied software and in mediaportal. both have worked in xp and vista as well.

    you don't need to spend big money to get a pc solution for the dvb-t transmissions
