Will Thailand be safe for travel in July 2010

I will be travelling to Thailand around the end of July/start of August, Chaing Mai & East gulf coast islands mostly but will have to pass through Bangkok a couple of times.

Will this still be safe given the current political situation?

I doubt whether anyone will be able to tell you what will happen in Thailand next week, never mind July. At the moment most of the trouble has been confined to one area of Bangkok. While there is a chance that things could get out of control, the current political trouble has been ongoing for 4 years now. Best advice is to keep yourself informed - (http://www.bangkokpost.com) and there are lots of Thailand based expatriates in the Lonely Planet forums.

It is hard to know exactly, but we were there when it was a bit iffy.

It is usually concentrated in small pockets of Bangkok. Just keep up to date and steer clear of the any potential hot spots.

The islands and pleases like Chiang Mai will be no bother in my opinion.

Actually thinking of going this year if the price is right.

I found a good website which has plenty of updates which are unbias and helpful - www.stickmanbangkok.com

Thinking of going there myself for about 4-6 weeks. Annoying that all of this is going on.
