Sun Holidays

I don't know if I'm seriously considering this but it will do no harm to get some suggestions.

I've never been on a sun holiday, ever. You know the type, off to some place on the coast of Spain or Greece or somewhere. As a result, I don't really know which places to consider and which to skip. I suppose there's the well know places like Ibiza, Rhodes, Ayia Napa etc but I was wondering if people had any suggestions about where to go and at what time of year?

Also, I've recently turned 33 so I'm wondering if these places are all full of teenagers and if so, I'd rather avoid them. I don't mind a bit of drinking and craic but at the same time, I don't want to look like an out of place old man :)

    Cheers.

why bother with a sun holiday, just go somewhere sunny with a beach and get the best of both worlds

Côte d'Azur (french riveria) is lovely, nice is a really interesting city, monaco is but a short bus ride away, cannes with its golden beaches about a 1 hour bus ride. september is really nice weather wise, low 20s

a cheaper option is gran canaria, which you can visit any time of the year as temperatures stay around 20-25C year round but best time to visit is september till march if you want to avoid the younger alcoholfueled crowd. the south of gran canaria is the best for beaches, playa del ingles gets a hell of a lot of stick on this forum but it has a truly amazing beach complete with sand-dunes http://www.spain-grancanaria.com/uk/beaches/maspalomas.html
