could someone confirm if an Irish Sky Sub Card will work in a different digibox ( to that it is paired to) for the non premium channels. ie the Irish Domestic and the standard package(s) channels. (I know Sky Sports/Movies wouldn't work)
    thanks

Yes. Non premium channels worked fine for me the last time I did this.

Not directly from my experience/knowledge but with the new white card ...Yes and No. My brother cancelled his HD sub and sky altogether, later he sold his sky HD box on ebay but kept the card. While waiting on me to finally get around to building his DDT/sat combo HTPC he used an old standard SD box. One day he tried the white sky card and got the non premium channels (no RTE, TV3) . He continued to use the card in the box for about 4 week when he got the "wrong box for this card" error.

Probably the last week of his subscription?
Sky require you to give a month's notice.
No RTE's might have been rectified with a software update.

You could be right about that, that would make sense. Also thinking about it more he didn't have his sub for the minimal 12 month period ...he had it about 6 months , this could also be a factor too.

It's more than likely the case that the card WILL work but WON'T update in a different box, as this would fit in with what happened to your brother, working cards usually last 4~6weeks.

Won't the non-premium channels "travel" with the card?

My white sky+ card also works in a non paired HD box for non premium channels. Won't let you record though. I'd be suprised it didn't update in the other box the same as a white UK FTV card does.

FTV cards are a whole different kettle of fish to Sub cards, poster above points out card lasted for 4 weeks in a different box, this fits in exactly with how long the entitlements last.

I take your point on the difference between FTV and sub cards but I always thought that once any sky card was in any sky box, properally aligned, that the 'keep alive' signal was received and it updated approx once a month regardless. Many of the sub cards used abroad do not have 'paired' boxes. I can't believe the thousands of cards used in Portugal and Spain etc. are all paired up to their boxes. I do know people in the past that have simply changed boxes and stuck the cards in their new boxes and they continued to work but I suppose it is possible that this may have changed with some recent software upgrade. We need someone to post, who brought their card to their box on holidays for a few months to know for sure!
